Position description

The European Cancer Organisation (ECO) is looking for an ambitious, dynamic and enthusiastic EU Projects Officer to work on a full-time basis, based in Brussels. The role will also require regular collaboration with the Policy, EU Projects, Research, Community, Governance, Communications and Operations Teams, as well as our Member Societies, Patient Advisory Committee and Focused Topic Networks.

Primary Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing and overseeing major EU project activity, including core elements of the Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan, such as its commitments on inter-specialty cancer training for healthcare professionals;
  • Assisting in the drafting, bidding and follow-up of all on-going and prospective EU projects (Horizon Europe, EU4Health, and other EU funding mechanisms);
  • Meticulous monitoring of project timelines and deliverables, ensuring all consortium members play their role defined in the project in a complete and timely manner;
  • Coordinating and managing diaries to organise (virtual and physical) meetings and events, handling logistics and systems in collaboration with the Operations team;
  • Meticulously retro-planning projects to ensure deadlines and milestones are met;
  • Preparing agendas and record action points during meetings for distribution;

Previous experience in managing EU Projects is preferred but not essential if the candidate can demonstrate project management skills. We are looking for someone who has great people skills and attention to detail - who can monitor the project, motivate the consortium and who has the ability to both see the big picture and focus on minor details.
The candidate is expected to be computer and internet literate with proven experience in using Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams and Word). Native or near-native level written and spoken English, with other European languages being an advantage.
Excellent inter-personal and communication will be highly valued. The candidate should be a flexible, collaborative and positive team member who accepts additional tasks and responsibilities as directed by the CEO.

  • A willingness to give dynamic leadership to projects;
  • A comfort with operating in a people-orientated environment, working effectively with experts and volunteers from many scientific fields and nations;
  • An aptitude to maintain calm when faced with unforeseen circumstances;
  • An ability to manage complexity;
  • Being able to maintain a professional and friendly attitude, keeping the reputation of the European Cancer Organisation into consideration at all times;
  • Strong organisational, communication and inter-personal skills with effective and efficient writing skills in English (native or near-native level);
  • Ability to problem solve, think critically and have clearattention to detail;
  • Be a team player able to follow internal and external workflows with precise deadlines;
  • High level of discretion to maintain confidentiality of information;
  • Outgoing and professional attitude;
  • Some background understanding and/or experience in professional education would be beneficial.

Profile and Experience
