University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) seeks Second Instructors to teach German language remotely in the World Languages program.
Synchronous speaking activity is one of the core pedagogical elements in world languages education. UMGC World Languages and Cultures program offers unique and exceptional educational experience for students (for online course delivery method) by offering weekly synchronous speaking practice sessions.
Required Education and Experience:
Master's degree in German Language or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.
Professional experience in German Language or related field.
Experience teaching adult learners online and in higher education is strongly preferred.
This position is specifically to teach remotely.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Terminal Degree in German Language or related field from an accredited institution of higher learning.

The Secondary Instructor (SI) Role at UMGC
UMGC is committed to helping students achieve success not only with us, but also in their professional fields. As a result, we actively seek faculty members who are scholar-practitioners: professionals who are actively and successfully engaged in their field who additionally wish to help the next generation of professionals grow in their knowledge and expertise through education.
Your role as a Secondary Instructor (SI) member will be to:
Facilitate synchronous speaking practice sessions utilizing Skype for students enrolled in world language classes throughout the 8 week-long semesters on a weekly basis.
Provide speaking practice sessions on various times on several different days to accommodate global student body.
Actively engage students and motivate them to succeed and convey a genuine energy and enthusiasm for their language learning.
Actively manage speaking practice log to provide rich, helpful feedback and assessment after each session.
Help students develop language proficiency and gain an understanding of culture.
