The Opportunity
The School of Hospitality and Tourism is a passionate and dedicated team of professionals committed to delivering on SAIT’s promise of applied education and student success. With an entrepreneurial and innovative spirit, the school trains nearly 1,200 students each year in addition to operating five food and beverage outlets and North America’s only student-run travel center, add continuing education and corporate events to the mix, and you’ve got a one-of-a-kind school that attracts top talent from around the world.
We are currently accepting applications for a motivated on call adjunct Baking and Pastry Arts Instructor to join the School of Hospitality and Tourism. Reporting to the Academic Chair, Baking and Pastry Arts Program, you will be accountable for promoting a positive and interactive learning environment with academic lectures and hands-on learning. The successful candidate will possess strong technical skills in all aspects of yeast and pastry products and you are an excellent communicator who works well in a collaborative and supportive team environment.Note: This is a part-time, temporary role beginning in March 2021
The Role
- Instruct high level courses to mature learners
- Prepare and present lectures and labs
- Evaluate student progress and achievement
- Provide ongoing support, guidance and advice to learners
Qualifications
- Minimum Journeyman Certificate or Red Seal Baker combined with experience in bakery/patisserie management and supervision
- Minimum of 5 years of related industry experience
- Teaching experience/Provincial Instructor Diploma program is an asset
- Expert knowledge of yeast and pastry goods as practiced in leading food service establishments
- Clear and concise understanding of safe and hygienic food handling practices
- Willingness and ability to learn new programs
- Demonstrated computer literacy
- Strong organization skills
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
