Production Assistant (2 positions)

Term: 10-week term Commencing April 24 until June 30, 2022 (possibility of extension)

Compensation: $16/hour

This position may be supported by a Canada Summer Jobs program. To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and,
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
    *International students are not eligible.
    *Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.

About the role:
Jazz Winnipeg is seeking a Production Assistant (or two) for a 10-week term to start April 24, 2023. Reporting to the Program Manager and working closely with the Production Manager and Technical Director, the Production Assistant(s) will be responsible for assisting in the execution and production of the TD Winnipeg International Film Festival from June 14-24, 2023. There is the possibility of an extension to support summer and fall events.

This is a physical, fast-paced role as part of the production team responsible for pre-event preparation, working at live events, and post-event wrap-up. This will include working with production suppliers, operations, scheduling, and logistics, and assisting with the organization and set-up/tear-down on-site at events. Administrative work will also be required.

Key duties/responsibilities pre-festival:

  • Sourcing and managing event suppliers for equipment
  • Place orders for equipment and deal with suppliers
  • Assist production team with administrative tasks
  • Keep track of payments and expenses and log them into budgets
  • Compile contact sheets for event staff, suppliers and key contacts
  • Assist with the recruitment and management of event volunteers
  • Compile venue kit supply lists and work with the volunteer coordinator to ensure venue kits are stocked, delivered and picked up at venues.
  • Compile tech books in coordination with key staff to supply to Festival venue sound technicians.
  • Assist with production set-up and tear-down.
  • Assist with ensuring compliance with health and safety protocols
  • Undertake research as and when required
  • Keeping regular inventories of items owned by Jazz Winnipeg in storage and in the office

Responsibilities on-site:

  • Assist with the physical set-up, operations and organization of venues
  • Ensuring petty cash expenses are logged and transferred to budgets
  • Ensuring incidents, losses and damages are logged immediately and incident reports are carried out
  • Acting as a friendly and helpful but firm presence on the site
  • Represent Jazz Winnipeg in a professional manner.

Essential skills:

  • Good communication, including written and verbal
  • Strong planning, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • An ability to work effectively under pressure
  • An ability to work independently and self-manage tasks in a timely fashion
  • A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Especially Excel).
  • The ability to respect confidentiality and use discretion
  • Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn
  • Manitoba Class 5 driver’s license, is required.
  • Strong interest or experience working on live events or festivals

Work conditions:

  • The role requires heavy lifting and the ability to be on-site and active for up to 10 hours/per day.
  • Must be available evenings and weekends.
