The Opportunity:
Canfor is currently looking for a strong leader with proven experience in a sawmill/manufacturing environment to join our team as a Quality Control Coordinator.
Reporting to the Plant Manager you will be working to maximize profit, lumber recovery and product quality by optimizing production, product flow and grade standards to meet current market demands and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in developing and achieving targets in safety, quality, cost, delivery and employee engagement
- Provide leadership in safety, quality, cost, delivery and employee engagement
- Ensure the Canfor Operating System (COS) is being followed with the emphasis on abnormality response.
- Management of Capital Project installations and commissioning.
- Provide leadership on Continuous Improvement Initiatives across the site whether in Quality or Production Departments.
- Provide coaching, training, support and development to other Supervisors in the Quality Control Department.
- Lead initiatives that support Canfor’s goal of 50% low-grade lumber reduction.
- Monitor and lead initiatives that maximize length outturns across the site.
- Work closely with other supervisors to ensure safety, quality and production standards are understood and achieved
- Develop and improve management systems that optimize production, lumber recovery and grade outturn.
- Management of quality control processes across the site as required.
- Work with Woodlands and Production Teams to help achieve log quality & profile standards and improvements.
- Ensure the regular monitoring and tracking of machine center performance
- Perform regular grade checks to improve grade accuracy and outturn
- Have knowledge or be prepared to obtain knowledge of MSR process with expectation to fulfill role of MSR supervisor
The Candidate:
- A strong commitment to safety
- Experience in the Sawmill and Planer mill optimization
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, analytical and problem solving skills
- Well-developed people and team building skills
- Strong computer skills
- Strong Mechanical Aptitude
- Be a creative thinker
- Be a team player
- A recognized CLS lumber grading ticket
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Log Scaling and Grading certification would be an asset
