Seeking a new Treasurer to start on July 1, 2024, who enjoys getting down and dirty with the financial figures in support of an organization that helps community members struggling with addiction, often on top of poverty, homelessness, and mental health issues.
Over the course of a year, the time commitment averages out to less than an hour per day but varies. The fiscal year-end is busy with filing, and January is particularly active with T4s and budget development. Board meetings are virtual, lasting 1-2 hours monthly in July, August, and December, with an AGM in October. The Treasurer must be available to go into the office and sign cheques weekly.
A background in banking, charitable bookkeeping, and tax preparation is preferred. More formal accounting certification is useful but not required if you're willing to learn on the job. Must meet NB requirements for board members.
The Treasurer is the chief person responsible for keeping the organization in good standing with the CRA and meeting financial requirements to continue receiving federal and provincial funds. This role works closely with the Executive Director, office manager, and part-time bookkeeper.
This position requires a willingness to continually learn as financial rules, regulations, and procedures change. If you don't enjoy learning new things, this may not be the job for you.
