Description de l'emploi - Regional Technical Sales Executive

The Company

Restrain launched in 1999, with a plan to develop a safe and effective way to prevent sprouting in potatoes. Research led them to conduct trials with ethylene. With the success of those trials, the Restrain company was born. Since then, the Restrain system has been used to treat more than 15 million tonnes of seed, table and processing potatoes in 38 countries worldwide. Restrain is the natural replacement for CIPC in potato storages and has several patents.

With proven sprout control in potatoes, Restrain began testing the system with other crops. Today, Restrain is used across the world in diverse sectors including seed potatoes and onion storage. Restrain can also be used for ripening in tomatoes, bell peppers and bananas.

The business has been greatly influenced by changes in the regulatory market in Europe which has led to the phasing out of CIPC as the traditional chemical to stop potato sprouting. Moreover, the discovery that ethylene gas can help with potato growth has created new applications and commercial opportunities. Recently, Restrain has developed a new technology called Precision Ethylene Treatment (PET) which allows for more precise and cost-effective distribution of gas in potato stores.

A new Managing Director joined the business in 2023 with a remit to develop the strategy and to take the business to the next level. Although most of the commercial activities are in Europe, Restrain has ambitions to grow globally and will therefore seek to create innovative go-to-market strategies under his leadership and powered by the commercial teams

Currently Restrain operates in key markets in Europe (UK, The Netherlands, Germany, France & Belgium), North America and LATAM. The team consists of c.30 people in a range of roles from sales, technology, agronomy, marketing and finance. Revenue is generated through leasing of equipment and the sale of ethylene gas to end-users. Customers include growers and processors 

The major focus areas for the business are its technology, customers, processes and people. More specifically, Restrain aims to continue to develop its in-house technology and software to be able to offer an industry-leading generator that can meet the needs of growers & processors.

Adrien Fernet joined the company in 2017 as Sales Manager and is now a Country Business Manager, with full responsibility for Restrain’s performance across French speaking Europe. He is looking to recruit 2 people to help meet Restrain’s aspirations across both Belgium and France.

One individual will be based in Wallonia, Belgium and the other in Hauts-de-France.

These roles are open to recent graduates to experienced sales/technical individuals and the salary will be based on these factors.

Reporting to: Country Business Manager (with dotted line to Head of Technical)

Job Purpose Summary/Accountabilities: 

The role will be primarily to support the Business manager on both a technical and commercial level. Supporting the current portfolio of customers to ensure user satisfaction, whilst identifying and developing new opportunities. The role will focus on the north of France and Belgium and from time to time may require travel further afield. 

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

General: 

• New business – find new leads and convert to new customer business.

• Provide / coordinate technical support and service to existing customers.

• Build and develop strong relationships with potato processors, seed potato companies, packing companies, influencers and growers through personal contact on a regular basis – keep the traffic lights on green for acquisition.

• Develop accumulator – Restrain seed potato treatment. 

• Reporting – Maintain the SF database.

• Create budget and assume all accountability for the implementation of sales.

• Develop market knowledge, build and maintain networks, analyse and report market changes

• Lead and/or support projects with your Restrain colleagues across the globe

Product and Technical Support 

• Run product quality related trails proactively

• Play a key role as a representative of your region in relation to product improvement 

• Bridge important technical related customer feedback to the central team to assure customer satisfaction 

• Monitor and analyse data and communicate its valuable outputs to internal and external stakeholders 

HSE Responsibilities:

• Compliance with company Health, Safety and Environmental Policy and Procedures and local legislation

Financial Responsibilities:

• Develop and manage a budget in line with the Business Manager 

Skills and Qualifications 

• A sales and/or technical background, ideally within the agricultural / agronomy / potato / fresh produce sector, and / or;

• A degree in a land-based subject

• Team player & networker.

• Resilient and a “clever worker”

• Shows eagerness, enthusiasm and ownership, energy and initiative

• Knowledge of potato varieties and potato storage

• Experience of working independently

• Full driving license

• Excellent negotiation and communication skills

• French & English speaker

• Ability and willingness to travel extensively within France and Belgium, and beyond where required.
