Senior Legal Manager - Maritime

(Based in Andheri, Mumbai)

Organization : As a key member in the internal legal department, you will play a critical role in ensuring legal compliance, mitigating risks, and supporting the senior management team with strategic legal advice. This position requires expertise in contract reviews, regulatory compliance, and general corporate law, with a focus on maritime and data privacy laws.

Your Responsibilities:

Contract Management : Review and negotiate maritime agreements, including Commercial, Shipman, Crewman, and Managers Undertakings. Analyse and finalize procurement agreements, NDAs, service agreements, consultancy contracts, and software licensing agreements. Draft, negotiate, and finalize execution versions of contracts, addressing stakeholder concerns to ensure favourable terms.

Regulatory Compliance & Legal Advisory : Ensure compliance with Indian privacy laws and support group companies' adherence to GDPR standards. Provide strategic advice on evolving environmental regulations, and assist in drafting requisite documentation. Stay updated with Indian and International maritime laws, Ministry of Shipping regulations, and international legal frameworks impacting the industry.

Risk Management : Identify potential legal risks in business operations and recommend effective mitigation strategies. Handle disputes and litigation involving the organization, including coordination with external counsel where required. Conduct due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, or partnerships.

Corporate Governance : Advise the senior management team on legal implications of strategic business decisions. Ensure adherence to corporate governance policies and procedures. Support compliance teams in conducting internal audits and ensuring adherence to ethical practices and anti-corruption regulations.

Collaboration with Management and HR team : Act as a key liaison between internal teams and external legal advisors or regulatory bodies. Provide legal training and awareness sessions to internal teams on contract negotiation, compliance, and risk management. Support the human resources department on employment law matters, employee agreements, and dispute resolution.

Your Profile:

• You have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Law (LLB).
• You have at least 12 years of experience as a Legal Expert in an MNC, with 2 to 4 years of prior experience in a law firm.
• Strong experience in the maritime industry or related sectors is preferred.
• Expertise in general corporate law, including contract drafting, negotiation, and legal advisory.
• Knowledge of data privacy laws and regulatory frameworks is highly desirable.
• Proven track record in handling complex legal matters, including disputes, compliance, and risk management.
• Good analytical skills with attention to details.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills with ability to interact and advise senior stakeholders.
