Astro is now stepping into the digital future of entertainment with a new and exciting streaming brand, aimed at millennials. For a young generation that has grown up consuming media through the small screen, traditional linear television doesn’t hit the mark. However, Astro’s content properties such as live sports, talent shows and original drama are still hugely popular – they just need to be served to the audience in a way that is consistent with their habits and lifestyle.
The new streaming service from Astro launches in 2021 and will be branded and positioned differently from the ‘parent’ brand. It is brought to life by a new team of digital natives and streaming experts coming together in a brand new division.
Astro is now recruiting exceptional candidates in the fields of content, marketing, product, operations and technology to drive the launch of what is bound to become one of the most notable and exciting media events in South East Asia for years to come.
The role Head of Content will lead a team to develop strategic insights to further the service’s content acquisition and investment efforts, with a specific focus on content evaluation, acquisition, original production and programming. This team is responsible for building and maintaining the SOTT content proposition to maximum user acquisition and retention effect. The team sources opportunities and negotiates with a broad range of content and programming entities, including major broadcast and cable companies, sports leagues, OTT/digital providers, studios, retailers, gaming developers, and live entertainment venues and production companies.
Content Strategy
Lead the content strategy for the SOTT service with the target demographic in mind and in line with the OTT services’ brand identity
Lead the team in charge of valuation and analysis behind in content buying and original content decisions
Ensure all content is on-brand, consistent in terms of style and quality, and optimised for search and user experience for all channels of content including online, social media, email, point of purchase, mobile, video, print and in-person
Work proactively with the Content Management Group teams on content that is shared between SOTT and Astro
Generate strategies for expanding existing partnerships across the organisation and Content Management Group into deals that fully leverage organisation’s scale
Drive cross-functional communication between the groups and getting alignment and reconcile multiple pipelines
Responsibilities
Lead, identify, structure and execute all content acquisitions & licensing deals. This includes all negotiations and contract management
Develop/ Invest in original content to support the overall content strategy. This includes concept and script review, casting selection and structure a greenlight process
In respect to new strategic initiatives, drive consistent approach to market and help set deal terms
Identify new opportunities and lead negotiations when needed; ensure successful execution and operationalisation of new partnerships
Develop opportunities for ventures to accelerate growth in content and media with relevant content studios and talent to drive a consistent output deal
Collaborate with the Content Management Group on certain initiatives, ensuring consistent internal/ external messaging and effective negotiations of most preferred deal terms
Create and manage the content budget to support the overall business model
Competitive benchmarking by tracking competitors’ content catalogue and pricing and to identify and prioritise gaps in both size of catalogue as well as economics
Establish shared goals, partnership execution and transparency within the organisation
Work with operation team to manage content delivery, meta-data requirements and Content Providers’ requirements to ensure punctual ingestion of content
Work with Data Analytics on consumer insights and behaviour to guide in making content decisions
REQUIREMENTS:
Requirement
- Bachelor’s degree in the business management or communications
- At least 8 years of relevant work experience is required
- Track record of success in partner management, business development, and deal negotiation
- Prior television, studio, or media focused experience preferred
- Direct knowledge of market specific players and television programming across the region
- Direct knowledge of audience insights
- Experience with digital consumer products
- Experience designing custom research approaches to gain broader or deeper consumer and market insights
