Our client is a leading global business law firm looking for a collaborative, results-oriented individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and has exceptional problem-solving skills. Naviga has been retained to identify a Bilingual Controller to join their team in Mexico City.

Title: Bilingual Controller
Location: Mexico City, Mexico

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the local and central reporting of financial data; including posting of accounting records, analyzing, evaluating, and reporting the financial position of the Mexico and Puerto Rico offices, and managing local accounting employees

  • Manage the financial systems, account reconciliations, internal controls, financial analyses and reporting requirements of the offices to meet both local external and internal requirements

  • Conduct extensive financial analyses to measure the current and future financial position for the CFO and other senior executives

  • Manage the local budget process, including initial budget preparation and forecast

  • Will be responsible for ongoing monthly expense management and reporting

  • Support merger and acquisition activity through financial and operational analysis of lateral partner candidates to include financial due diligence

  • Supervise the local Payroll and Accounts Payable and ensure all taxes, earnings and deductions are accurate and within local guidelines and that transactions are recorded accurately and timely in the financial system

  • Oversee the local Partner and Associate compensation plans and related schedules

  • Track special compensation arrangements and involve other parties as necessary

  • Manage, with firm guidance, the office's banking relationships with other financial institutions

  • Interact regularly with banking representatives and maintain a positive working relationship

  • Receive and respond to Partner inquiries regarding tax issues and financial performance

  • Provide regular direction and leadership to local accounting staff on projects and assignments

  • Responsible for hiring staff, conducting performance management, as well as coaching and developing staff

  • Work collaboratively with the US to establish short and long-term projects and initiatives

  • Provide reporting to the US finance team as well as the local Office Managing Partners in Mexico and Puerto Rico

  • Manage local tax filing requirements and other financial consultants as needed

Requirements:

  • 7-15 years of public progressive experience in Accounting or Finance of which 3 years must have been in a management position at an international company

  • Demonstration of faculty and ability to handle administrations they’ll face.

  • Bilingual; English and Spanish. Needs to be able to communicate with the US team

  • Experience from the Professional Services industry is ideal but public experience or varied experience is fine

  • Multiple years of experience using ERP or similar complex financial management systems

  • Robust Excel skills to analyze data and handle large volumes

  • Must have the ability to fit into the company with questions and issues that come up

  • Needs to be nimble; assess the systems, how they function, learn processes, while providing recommendations

  • Ability to interact with the local attorneys and Partner group in Mexico

  • Must be comfortable with this interaction and engagement with the partners

  • Will communicate messages from the US back to Mexico and visa versa

Education:

  • Degree in Accounting, Financial Analysis or related field

  • CPA license or equivalent required
