Job description

A full-time position as Associate Professor in pharmacokinetics is available in the section of Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Biosciences at the Department of Pharmacy.

About the Department and what they are looking for in this position

The Department of Pharmacy is seeking a highly motivated, dynamic, and innovative researcher with strong collaborative and educational skills.The ideal candidate will significantly contribute to strengthening the research within pharmacokinetics, clinical pharmacology and therapeutic drug monitoring while promoting interdisciplinary and international cooperation. Experience with clinical trials, pharmacometrics, pharmacogenomics and/or computational life science is highly desirable. The candidate will be expected to collaborate with the existing research group in pharmacokinetics and other relevant research groups. The successful candidate should have documented independent research experience after the PhD degree with publications in international peer review journals. A history of securing external funding, or at least strong funding application efforts, is mandatory.Additional attributes that will be considered include the ability to foster an appealing research environment, secure external funding, demonstrate experience in research supervision, establish international networks, and showcase originality in research. There is also an exciting opportunity to participate in a major EU initiative focusing on genomics and personalized medicine across Europe.

The cluster of pharmaceutical biotech industry, university hospital and academia in the Oslo area is growing, and the concept of Oslo Science City with the new Life Science building in progress is an important part of this development. The Department will move into the new Life Science building in 2026, where interdisciplinary collaborations and scientific convergence will be important. This will provide new opportunities for groundbreaking research and innovation. 
Teaching is an important part of the position, and the overall workload of teaching and research is typically divided equally between the two. The successful candidate should be able to teach at all levels, including master- and PhD levels. The position will entail teaching in various areas of pharmacology, including pharmacokinetics and pharmacotherapy and clinical drug trials to students at all levels, including lectures, lab/group teaching and supervision. 

General information about the position

Additional responsibilities include leading and initiating research-based teaching, supervising researchers, participating in examination-related duties, and undertaking administrative tasks as required. The successful applicant may furthermore be required to take on other teaching duties and administrative tasks, by request from the Department or the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. 

Qualification requirements

  • The successful applicant must hold a PhD preferentially in pharmacokinetics or a closely related field within pharmacy or pharmacology and possess a robust scientific track record within this research area. If the candidate's PhD is in a different field, they must have a documented, strong scientific track record in pharmacokinetics following the completion of their doctoral degree.
  • Master’s degree in pharmacy (5 years) or equivalent must be formally documented.
  • The selected candidate will have documented independent research experience after the PhD degree, including scientific production in international peer review journals.
  • Scientific qualifications will play a major role, and the main emphasis will be on the candidate’s scientific production from the last five years.
  • Documented success for acquisition of external funding.
  • The successful applicant must be able to teach at all levels and to supervise Master and PhD students, especially in pharmacology including pharmacokinetics, and pharmacotherapy as well as clinical drug trials.
  • The candidate must be able to teach in one of the Scandinavian languages, as Norwegian authorities require instruction in Norwegian for the pharmacy program.
  • Pedagogical qualifications and teaching and supervision experience at all levels will be an important factor in the evaluation process and should be well documented in a teaching portfolio. The applicant should describe her/his qualifications in view of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) framework which includes:
    • Focus on student learning
    • A clear development over time
    • A researching approach
    • A collegial attitude and practice
  • The successful candidate who at the time of appointment cannot document sufficient teaching qualifications (minimum formal requirement is a 200 hours pedagogical programme) will be required to obtain such qualifications within a two-year period.
  • Documented comprehensive knowledge of the pharmaceutical area in Europe and/or the USA, including regulatory and therapeutic guidelines is required.

Desired qualifications:

  • International network, outreach activities, collegiality, and the ability to create a good working environment will be part of the evaluation.
  • Experience with planning and conducting of clinical trials as well as regulatory experience in drug development.
  • Experience with bioanalytical methodology (LC-MS) pharmacometrics and/or computational life science.
  • Independent teaching responsibility experience.
  • Documented experience in research dissemination.
  • Other qualifying activities such as innovation, patenting and research management.
  • The person appointed will be requested to take on some administrative duties. Hence such experience will be an advantage.

  • Ability to enthusiastically communicate complex scientific topics to students, colleagues and the general public.
  • Ability to create and contribute to a well-functioning, inclusive and productive research environment.
  • Networking skills, ability to collaborate and conduct scientific leadership.
  • Ability to cooperate and communicate well with other members of staff.

The successful candidate should have an international profile with respect to the above criteria. The candidate for this position will be selected based on excellence and fit with the section’s research profile.

  • Salary NOK 646 000 - 870 890 per annum depending on qualifications in a position as Associate Professor (position code 1011).

  • List of reference persons: 2–3 references (name, relation to candidate, e-mail and phone number)
