Job Description - Payroll & Assistant Accountant

About Us
Prime Property is a multi-disciplined property organisation. Through several independent companies, the group owns and operates commercial office buildings, car parking buildings, hotels, residential buildings, boarding houses, industrial and retail properties. The group also develops residential land and housing estates.



About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Payroll & Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team. This role is responsible for processing payroll accurately and on time while supporting the accounting and finance functions of the business.


You will work closely with the Finance Manager / Hotel Financial Controller and collaborate with HR, management, and teams across the business.



Key Responsibilities


Payroll



  • Process weekly or fortnightly payroll accurately and on time

  • Maintain employee payroll records including new starters, terminations, and pay changes

  • Process statutory deductions including PAYE, KiwiSaver, student loans, and child support

  • Ensure compliance with New Zealand payroll and employment legislation

  • Process leave calculations including annual leave, sick leave, and public holidays

  • Manage KiwiSaver enrolments and contribution changes

  • Prepare payroll reports and respond to employee payroll queries

  • Prepare payroll journals



Accounts and Finance Support



  • Perform bank reconciliations and maintain financial records

  • Assist with GST returns and supporting schedules

  • Support month-end processes including journals and account reconciliations

  • Assist with financial and management reporting

  • Maintain accounting records in the accounting system

  • Provide backup support for Accounts Payable when required



About You



  • Minimum 5 years’ payroll experience in New Zealand

  • Strong knowledge of NZ payroll legislation, PAYE, KiwiSaver, and the Holidays Act

  • Experience with Bamboo and iPayroll is preferred

  • Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration is an advantage

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

  • Good organisation and time management skills

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with staff at all levels

  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and accounting systems

This role requires flexibility and teamwork. From time to time, you may be asked to assist with other tasks to support the team and the wider business.
