It also supports the Minister for Digitising Government, and Government Chief Digital Officer (GCDO) to drive the government’s digital transformation and position government to succeed in a changing and evolving digital age. 
Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About the role
The Principal Advisor (Kaiwhakatere) is a pivotal role within the Māori Digital and Crown Relationships Group (MDCR), reporting and supporting the Kaihautu Matihiko Māori me ngā Hononga Karauna - Director Māori Digital and Crown Relationships. You will play a crucial role in directing and uplifting the digital aspirations of Iwi-Māori across the branch and Public Service, ensuring these aspirations are a driving force within the Digital Public Service Branch and beyond.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop, oversee, and manage the DPS Māori Crown relationship framework, nurturing strategic partnerships with Iwi-Māori, public sector, and System Leaders.
  • Lead and/or influence, advocate and contribute to strategic and policy programs and projects that align with the digital needs of Iwi-Māori, enhancing digital public services.
  • Develop and support the implementation of a forward-looking approach that anticipates and addresses Iwi-Māori digital needs over the next 5 to 10 years.
  • Provide strategic and policy advice and support to the Minister and other agencies on initiatives supporting Iwi-Māori digital aspirations.
  • Serve as a principal cultural advisor in supporting the Director, ensuring cultural integrity and respect for Te Ao Māori in all engagements and presentations.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate with ease the cultural, strategic, and political complexities of Te Ao Māori and Te Ao Pākehā, including the machinery of Government.
  • Skills in strategic thinking, navigating complexity, and communicating with influence.
  • A desire to influence and advocate for Iwi-Māori digital and data aspirations.
  • Experience in strategic policy analysis, engagement with Iwi-Māori, and public sector leadership.
  • Knowledge of the policy development, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi application in strategy and operations.
  • Proficiency and capable in Te Reo Māori ōna Tikanga is highly advantageous.
