Job Description - Guest Service Agent - Part-Time

About our hotel

The James Cook Hotel Grand Chancellor is one of Wellington’s most well-known Hotels. We are part of the Grand Hotels International group with hotels located throughout New Zealand, Australia, Malaysia and Singapore.  Grand Hotels International is known for quality accommodation, exceptional service, convenient locations and outstanding conference and meeting facilities.  

 

The James Cook Hotel Grand Chancellor has 269 guest rooms and provides a 4.5 star experience to our Corporate, Government and Leisure guests.  We are looking for customer service focused individuals to take on the Part Time roles of dual Guest Services Agent. 

 

These are rostered positions so the successful candidates will need to be available to work any given day of the week, Monday to Sunday, for AM or PM shifts predominantly between the hours of 7am and midnight. Shifts and rostered days off will vary due to operational requirements. These part time positions will provide approximately 20-32 hours per week and can be negotiated. 

 

The ideal candidates for these role will:

 

  • A good knowledge of the Wellington region is advantageous as you will be providing directions and recommendations to guests on services and attractions in the Wellington region
  • Have excellent communication skills
  • The ability to multi-task, take the initiative and adapt to a busy environment
  • Have the ability to defuse potential conflict situations and deal with guest problems in a professional manner
  • Confidence with up selling and have cash handing skills 
  • Have the desire to always put the customers’ needs above all else
  • A passion for the hospitality industry and a desire to see our hotel succeed in all areas of operations
  • Previous concierge or reception experience in a 4-5 star hotel is advantageous, however full training will be provided.

 

The position will include, but is not limited to:

  • Answering questions about hotel services and facilities
  • Checking guests in and out 
  • Welcome and farewell of guests
  • Be the first point of contact for guest enquiries
  • Deliver Luggage and messages to guest rooms
  • Ability to solve problems over the telephone 
  • Be customer focused 
  • Be highly organised and efficient
  • Great attention to detail
