Minimum Requirements

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Fluent in English.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor Degree in Sports Science or Exercise Science or Exercise Physiology or Physiotherapy or Kinesiology or Human Performance.

AND Post-Graduate Diploma with major in exercise physiology OR Exercise Physiologist Certification from internationally recognized institution.(Fulltime Studies).

EXPERIENCE:

2 years Clinical Experience in cardiovascular, pulmonary, or metabolic disorders. (Licensed Experience).

CERTIFICIATION/LICENSURE:

Valid Primary License from the country of origin (if applicable) AND should be eligible for license from the licensing authority in the State of Qatar to practice as a healthcare profession.

JOB SUMMARY:

Within the mission, vision and values of the medical group the main role of the Exercise Specialist is as follow:

The exercise specialist will work closely with exercise physiologist, physiotherapy specialist, and physiotherapist and as well as multi-disciplinary team to decide proper patients’ care plan in regards to patients’ performance during an exercise session. Conduct risk factor stratification.

Work with special populations (cardiac patients, elderly, obese, women’s health, etc.).

Work with individuals with controlled disease.

Perform exercise testing and develops comprehensive exercise prescriptions.

Design and supervise treatment sessions.

Conduct program administration.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop exercise prescriptions including exercise progression and home program.

Design and supervise exercise sessions.

Assist in patient, client and family education.

Provide ongoing psychological and motivational support in exercise class.

Assist in safety features of the class including checking medications and compliance to prescribed exercise program.

Provide ongoing support for risk factor management.

Provide exercise stress testing services in coordination with medical director (cardiologist consultant) and exercise physiologist.

Assess program participants for signs and symptoms of cardiovascular distress, and assist participants in self-evaluation.

Monitor the patients’ response to exercise.

Provide leadership in emergency procedures.

Maintain effective communications with all team members.

Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings regarding planning, implementation and revision of patient care programs.

Function as an educational resource for patients, families and team members.

Maintain clear and concise patient care record.

Provide motivational support to patients and families regarding long-term behavior modification.

Perform other duties as assign.

Managerial:

Deputize for the Cardiac Rehabilitation Coordinator to maintain continuity of service delivery in their absence.

Provides leadership to staff within the team through professional clinical supervision, training and appraisal.

Participate in, and undertake, the departmental Personal Development and Performance Review system to promote personal and service developments.

Collaborate with exercise physiologist to develop a specialist cardiac rehabilitation service to maximize patient care and use of resources.

Educational :

Participate in clinical research and program evaluation in the areas of cardiac rehabilitation and cardiovascular (CVD) prevention.

Develop and update clinical knowledge and skills in a cardiac rehabilitation field to ensure delivery of evidence-based care.

Participate in team in-service training in related specialty area to promote staff and personal development.

Collaborate with exercise physiologist to develop other cardiac rehabilitation programs to maximize patient care and use of resources.
