Covid 19 Support Funds Government Grants

The Covid-19 pandemic has unsettled both personal and professional lives all around the world. Companies and employers have since taken the somewhat difficult decision to switch their work styles overnight so as to encourage the work-from-home/remote-working conditions during this tough time.

Unfortunately, with the global economy taking a large hit, countless individuals have also been displaced from their employment too. In Singapore specifically, retrenchment figures have also seen a sharp increase since the epidemic.

In order to tide through these challenging times, the Singapore government has introduced various schemes to provide its citizens with some financial support. 3 of these schemes include, ‘Covid-19 Support Grant’, ‘The Courage Fund’ and ‘The Temporary Relief’.

In this article, you can find more information on the different schemes available and also learn how you may be able to claim your monies from the above-mentioned grants.

Covid-19 Support Grant

Covid-19 Support Grant Singapore - Covid-19 Support Fund

This scheme is to help Singaporeans and Permanent Residents (PRs) who are currently unemployed due to retrenchment/contract termination, or presently placed on involuntary no-pay leave (NPL) for at least 3 consecutive months, or for those experiencing reduced monthly salary of at least 30% for at least 3 consecutive months, as a result of Covid-19.

In order to be eligible for the scheme, individuals must not have earlier applied or received the Self-Employed Persons Income Relief Scheme (SIRS) or ComCare Assistance. Interns and Full-time National Servicemen cannot apply for this programme either.

Interested applicants will need to agree to actively participate in job search or attend a training programme under Workforce SIngapore (WSG), or the Employment and Employability Institute (e2i).

For individuals who have lost their job, or been placed on NPL, the grant will provide a monthly cash grant of up to $800 for 3 months. For individuals who have experienced an income loss of at least 30%, a monthly cash grant of up to $500 for 3 months will be provided.

Eligible parties can apply for the grant online at go.gov.sg/CSG. Applications have been extended until 31 December 2020. The application window for the extended CSG will be open from 1 October 2020. Interested individuals will need to provide their NRIC, bank account number, relevant documents proving loss of job, NPL, or reduction of at least 30% salary, past and current payslip(s) or CPF contribution statement(s).

The Courage Fund

The Courage Fund is set up to help lower-income households whose family member(s) have contracted Covid-19, or are on Stay-Home Notice (SHN), mandatory Leave of Absence (LOA), or Home Quarantine Order (HQO).

In addition to that, households with a loss of complete or partial (at least 10%) household income due to Covid-19, and with a prior household income of $3,900 or per capita household income of $1,350 may apply. ComCare clients may also apply for The Courage Fund.

Eligible parties will receive a one-time lump sum of up to $1,000, which will be credited to your bank account. It should be noted that the relief amount will be provided per household, and not per individual.

Applications can be submitted at any Social Services Offices (SS0) within 6 months from the end of the SHN, LOA, HQO or discharge from hospitalisation due to Covid-19, whichever is later.

Individuals will need to provide their NRIC, bank account number, proof of SHN/LOA/HQO/hospitalisation due to Covid-19, and relevant documents showing reduction in income as a result of Covid-19.

The Temporary Relief Fund

The Temporary Relief fund is a one-time interim financial assistance scheme to help both Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents (PRs) who may have lost their jobs, or a substantial portion of their income due to COVID-19.

Residents aged 16 years and above are eligible to apply for this support scheme if they have lost their job or at least 30% of their personal income due to Covid-19 (after 23 Jan). Additionally, these individuals must not have been earning a total of more than $10,000, or monthly per capita income of $3,100. They must also not be registered under the ComCare assistance scheme.

Applications for the Temporary Relief Fund can be submitted online or at a Social Service Office (SSO), or a Community Centre/Club (CC) near you. Individuals will need to bring along their NRIC, letter of retrenchment or termination of work contract, as well as other relevant documents to prove their reduction in income due to Covid-19.

Successful applicants will be notified of their outcome via SMS or phone call. Funds will be transferred via the PayNow service or cheque to the concerned individuals in about 2 to 3 weeks’ time.
