[Urgent] Senior Civil & Structural Engineer

Job Responsibilities

The Senior Civil & Structural Engineer is responsible for leading the overall execution and delivery of construction projects in accordance with project requirements, timelines, and quality standards. The role involves overseeing design development, project assessments, tendering activities, and construction execution while ensuring compliance with regulatory and engineering requirements.

The candidate will review engineering designs, specifications, calculations, and technical submissions to ensure accuracy, feasibility, and alignment with project objectives. The role also includes leading and mentoring a team of engineers, driving continuous performance improvement, and coordinating closely with consultants, contractors, subcontractors, and authorities.

The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities, with in-depth knowledge of civil and structural engineering practices and project management. Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills are essential. The role requires the flexibility to work both in the office and on-site. The candidate may also be required to perform duties as a Qualified Person (QP) in compliance with the Building Control Act.

Key Responsibilities

Design Development & Technical Review

• Review conceptual and schematic designs to ensure technical feasibility and alignment with project requirements.

• Evaluate structural calculations, load analysis, and engineering models to verify design integrity and compliance with applicable standards.

• Review detailed engineering designs and identify potential design conflicts that may impact project timelines or constructability.

• Oversee legislative and regulatory submissions for all stages of the project.

• Drive the implementation of sustainability initiatives and green building strategies throughout the design and construction phases.

Tendering & Pre-Construction Management

• Lead and support tendering and bidding activities, including the evaluation of environmental considerations, regulatory requirements, construction costs, and project risks.

• Review project cost estimates, resource planning, and technical submissions in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

• Evaluate project schedules, manpower requirements, and project performance indicators to ensure successful delivery.

• Review contractual terms, tender conditions, and negotiated agreements to ensure compliance with project requirements.

• Assess contractors’ and subcontractors’ tender submissions and recommendations.

Project Execution & Site Management

• Oversee contractors’ and subcontractors’ performance to ensure works are carried out in accordance with project specifications, quality standards, and approved schedules.

• Review drawings, plans, and variation orders to ensure structural accuracy and technical compliance.

• Monitor project progress, conduct site inspections, and ensure timely resolution of technical and drawing-related issues.

• Review testing and commissioning outcomes to support successful project completion and handover.

• Oversee defect rectification works and review as-built drawings for accuracy and completeness.

Team Leadership & Operational Management

• Manage and re-prioritise manpower and work activities to minimise delays and optimise project delivery.

• Mentor and guide engineers, supervisors, and site teams to ensure effective project execution and continuous capability development.

• Identify training and development opportunities to strengthen both technical and management competencies within the team.

• Coordinate and liaise with consultants, authorities, subcontractors, and clients on technical, design, and site-related matters.

• Monitor project milestones, operational performance, and financial health to ensure project objectives are achieved.

• Support business development initiatives by building and maintaining relationships with prospective clients and stakeholders.

• Review and manage variation claims, contractual disputes, and liquidated damages matters where required.

• Ensure compliance with workplace safety regulations and oversee the implementation of safe work procedures together with the safety team.
