Healthcare Assistants

Purpose

Perform activities of daily living (ADL) to assigned group of residents and assist in specific nursing procedures as assigned by NIC. Perform cleaning and portering duties as assigned by NIC To interact and provide companionship to the residents. To assist in social rehabilitation of the residents. Reporting Responsibilities Reports To: NIC

Responsibilities 

• Assist in resident’s activities of daily living and personal care. Activities include bathing, dressing, undressing, grooming, feeding, toiletry needs, etc.
• Assist in transferring of residents from wheelchair to bed and vice versa, ambulation with walking aids.
• Provide social and emotional support for residents through interactive activities with guidance from NIC.
• Attends to the calls and needs of residents constantly.
• Assist in specific procedures as instructed / assigned by NIC.
• Participate in orientation of fellow colleagues and in-service education programmes.
• Participate in any and all activities related to the smooth running of level / unit.

Areas of Accountability

Resident Care

• Assist in activities of daily living (ADL) of residents at assigned level.
• Provide accurate documentation of resident care based on knowledge of the nursing process and related incidents. For example: (a) Taking and recording of weight, height, vital signs of residents. (b) Testing of urine and recording the results. (c) Provide accurate information on bowel movements of residents. (d) Provide accurate information on resident’s food, fluid consumption.
• Assist in serving meals, feeding, cleaning up after meal times.
• Perform nursing procedures such as, naso-gastric feeding, gastrostomy feeding, giving of insulin injections, giving of suppositories, perform oral or nasal suctioning, perform colostomy care and others as indicated by the NIC.
• Ensure safety during transferring or ambulating residents and while showering the residents.
• Maintain and respect the resident’s privacy and confidentiality regarding health or family issues.
• Assist doctors and nursing staff during treatments and examinations of residents and constantly ensuring privacy of residents at all times. 

Administrative & Management Practice

• Ensure that all reports in relation to all aspects of resident care management is accurately documented.
• Ensure all important items e.g. valuables of residents are reported to the NIC and kept in accordance to the company’s policy and appropriate documentation of handing over and safekeeping are carried out.
• Ensure lockers and cupboards of resident’s, cabinets, work station and trolleys are tidy and neat and replenish items if required.
• Have knowledge of all nursing home procedures, guidelines, standard operating procedures and policy and practise accordingly.
• Ensure the proper dispensing and recording of consumables.
• Ensure the economic use and care of equipment and supplies.

Staff Development / Education

• Attend appropriate education programmes for further self-development.
• Participate in ongoing and in-service educational activities.
• Participate in continuous improvement programmes (CIP).

Occupational Health and Safety

• Ensure safe work practices and a safe working environment which meets required standards, report any issues to the NIC,
• Familiar with all aspects of the nursing home emergency and evacuation procedures and guidelines.

Quality Assurance Ensure compliance to the Company’s quality procedures, guidelines and policy.
