Job Description - Community Pharmacist

The job scope of a Community Pharmacist goes beyond the boundaries of a dispensary. In addition to his professional duties, he also has responsibilities towards managing the retail pharmacy business together with the store manager. He has to ensure operations run smoothly, control operating costs and achieve sales and other targets. He also has to see that his customers get the highest level of service.

Professional Duties

  • Undertake all duties and responsibilities of a registered pharmacist required under the various Acts and Regulations.
  • Dispense prescriptions accurately and do intervention(s) when necessary.
  • Fully support telepharmacy service by answering requests from Pharmacy Executives.
  • Counter-prescribe appropriate over the counter and/or Pharmacy only medicines to customers.
  • Counsel the safe and proper usage of all medications.
  • Make recommendations that contribute to the well-being of patients.
  • Observe and abide by the Code of Ethics stated by the Singapore Pharmacy Council.
  • Continuously upgrade his/her professional knowledge by attending relevant training and courses.
  • Perform national healthcare initiatives which are supported by Watsons eg Community Pharmacist Health Champion Program (cPHCP).

Customer Service Management

  • Serve customers attentively and see that their needs are well met.
  • Advise customers on proper product usage.
  • Assist customers in placing special orders and ensure customers receive their orders satisfactorily and within the agreed timeline.
  • Be aware of current Advertising & Promotion activities/mechanics and make the appropriate recommendations to customers.
  • Manage customers' complaints and dissatisfaction, exercising discretion when necessary.
  • Lead by example and be a champion for excellent customer service.
  • Constantly monitor the level of customer service of the store. Provide coaching and counselling to staff that needs improvement in their customer service skills.

Retail Operations Management

  • Maintain a proper Inventory Control and Management system for Health (Div A) and dispensary items (Dept 101) eg ordering, requesting for PLU unblock, merchandising and wastage control.
  • Work together with other store staff and supply chain to ensure adequate stockholding for all Div A items
  • Monitor the expiry of goods of Dept 101 items and other Div A items together with store staff.
  • Ensure that all pharmacy advertising & promotion activities are properly executed.
  • Ensure that all Stock-take exercises of dispensary are properly and accurately executed.
  • Ensure proper display and merchandising of waterfall display.
  • Adhere to all policies and standard operation procedure as set by management.
  • Communicate all instructions from management to your staff and ensure its proper execution.

Business Management

  • To be directly responsible for achieving Div A Sales target and other targets given.
  • Submit the weekly, monthly reports and other documentation as requested by management.
  • Attend and actively participate in Pharmacy Management Meetings (PPM).
  • Contain operating costs by keeping expenses (eg stationery), wastage and shrinkage low.

People Management

  • Communicate and enforce all company policies and regulations to your staffs.
  • Ensure your staffs are properly attired
  • Provide training and coaching to your staffs and help them improve their skills and knowledge to excel in their jobs.
  • Discipline and counsel staffs who do not comply to set regulations and standards.
  • Conduct performance appraisal for your staffs.
  • Promote a pleasant environment, foster teamwork and create a great shopping experience for our customers.

Other Duties

  • Portfolios and patient care projects as assigned by management
  • Submit PE roster (if applicable) to the roster team weekly
  • Request for dispensing materials
  • Order printer drum and toner
  • Participate and support health-related events and create brand awareness
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management eg distribution of FIT Kits, D-Care material
