Badael has sought to gain in-depth and comprehensive expertise in the fields of peacebuilding, nonviolence, and human rights, especially concerning women’s engagement in these areas. This has culminated into high-quality research such as the 2019 report “Syrian Women’s Perspectives on Life in Turkey: Rights, Relations, and Civil Society”. light on how challenges Syrian women face in Turkey evolved focusing on their knowledge of and access to rights and means of civic engagement as well as the role of Turkish and Syrian organizations in facilitating this access. As for the immediate future, Badael will continue its efforts to make a meaningful contribution to Syrian feminist knowledge production through the publication of research that explores Syrian women’s experiences.
Research Intern
Under the supervision of the lead researcher, the intern will engage in various research activities across Badael’s on-going projects. To enhance the work of the research team, the intern will assist in data collection activities, desk research, literature reviews, and data coding. The research topics cover a variety of issues in relation to Syrian women. That involves subjects including, but not limited to, Syrian women’s civic participation, Syrian women/feminist movements, and refugee experiences.
Badael is looking to hire an enthusiastic individual seeking to gain experience at an organisation with extensive knowledge of the Syrian context. Duties/Responsibilities
Conducting research as requested by the lead researcher on a variety of topics related to the Syrian context.
Assist in data collection activities of the various on-going research.
Conducting desk research, literature reviews, and data coding.
Contribute to the analysis of data if requested by the lead researcher
Writes and edits materials for publication and presentation.
Other duties as assigned, including support of the communication department in relation to published research.
Qualifications/Experience
(current) Master graduate in any of the following: Sociology, Middle-Eastern studies, Political Science, and Gender studies.
Proven interest in the Levant and Syria.
Knowledge of qualitative data coding.
Experience with specialized software or datasets is desirable.
Experience in oral history tools and methodology is desirable.
Excellent word processing and general computing skills.
Experience in writing for both academic and non-academic readership.
Excellent command of English and the ability to edit drafts.
