Job Description - IDRIC Centre Administrator

The IDRIC Centre Administrator will work within the Industrial Decarbonisation Research and Innovation Centre (IDRIC), led by the UK Industrial Decarbonisation Champion and IDRIC Director Prof. Mercedes Maroto-Valer. The post holder will report to the Centre Manager within a team of ten as well as closely working across all IDRIC partner organisations (please see https://idric.org/ for further information about IDRIC). The post-holder will provide high quality administrative support to IDRIC through co-operative teamwork.

Detailed Description

The decarbonisation of industrial clusters is of critical importance to the UK's ambitions of cutting greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050, as published in the UK Industrial Decarbonisation Strategy (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/industrial-decarbonisation-strategy). The UK Industrial Decarbonisation Challenge (IDC) of the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF) aims to establish the world's first net-zero carbon industrial cluster by 2040 and four low-carbon clusters by 2030.

IDRIC has received £20m from UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) to support this Challenge through funding a multidisciplinary research and innovation centre, which currently does not exist at the scale, to accelerate decarbonisation of industrial clusters.

IDRIC works with over 140 partners across academia, industry, government and other stakeholders to deliver the multidisciplinary research and innovation agenda needed to decarbonise the UK's industrial clusters. IDRIC's research and innovation programme is delivered through a range of activities that enable industry-led, multidisciplinary research in cross-cutting areas of technology, policy, economics and regulation.

IDRIC connects and empowers the UK industrial decarbonisation community to deliver an impactful innovation hub for industrial decarbonisation. The establishment of IDRIC as the “one stop shop� for research and innovation, as well as knowledge exchange, regulation, policy and key skills will be beneficial across the industry sectors and clusters.

Summary of Key Duties and Responsibilities:

The post holder will:

  • Provide administrative support for IDRIC to include day-to-day operational aspects of work, including email prioritisation and management, managing travel, organisation of meetings, purchasing/invoice payment.
  • Reply to emails on behalf of the IDRIC secretariat where relevant.
  • Research, prepare and collate briefing papers/other information and material ahead of appointments.
  • Support the delivery of event management and coordination.
  • Provide support for a variety of projects and initiatives at the request of the Director, Centre Manager and Business and Impact Manager, which will also include facilitating and taking ownership of ad hoc projects as requested.
  • Provide support to the management boards, committees, working groups and ad hoc meetings as and when required; this includes the clerking of committees (minute taking and follow-up of actions).
  • Create input to reports, papers and documents being used by the IDRIC team, including analysis as required.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service, to both internal and external colleagues and stakeholders
  • Liaise with external partners, such as Funding Councils, NGOs and other Universities.
  • Work with colleagues to develop and maintain office systems, processes and procedures for support, including maintaining filing and management of records, in line with the University's records management policy and adopted best practice.
  • Create and improves processes to increase efficiency and effectiveness of work.
  • Contribute to a productive and cooperative team ethos within IDRIC.
  • Supporting the finance manager in checking partner research proposals costing for accuracy and compliance with University and funder regulations; completion of on-line funder applications, lay review of proposals and appropriate feedback and liaison with funders.
  • Provide administrator support to the flexible funding rounds, second tranche of proposals and secondment activity.
  • Provide diary management support for the IDRIC secretariat.

Education, Qualifications & Experience [Attributes]:

Essential

  • Educated to SCQF Level 6 or equivalent experience.
  • Experience of working within a similar environment as outlined above.
  • Competent in the use of relevant IT packages, including ms word ,excel and power point.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrable professional and proactive approach.
  • Demonstrable ability to work quickly, flexibly and accurately in a dynamic, changing and pressured environment.
  • Demonstrable provision of excellent customer service.

Desirable

  • Experience of Higher Education
  • Project administration experience
