Operations Manager - Terminal Logistics Southampton, UK Full-Time Salary: £52,000
We are working in partnership with a global leader in terminal logistics to recruit an experienced Operations Manager for their Southampton site. This is a key leadership role within a fast-paced maritime environment, offering the opportunity to drive operational performance, safety, and continuous improvement across complex terminal operations.
The Role As Operations Manager, you will take full responsibility for the day-to-day running of terminal activities, ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations across cargo handling, fleet, and yard management. You will lead from the front, managing teams, coordinating resources, and working closely with internal and external stakeholders to optimise performance.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and oversee terminal operations, including heavy lift, breakbulk, and automotive cargo handling
Manage H&H lifting activities, terminal equipment, and fleet to ensure safe and efficient operations
Plan and allocate labour and contractor resources in line with operational demand
Monitor KPIs, control budgets, and identify opportunities for performance and cost improvement
Promote and embed a strong safety-first culture in collaboration with HSEQ teams
Coordinate with stakeholders to maximise yard and warehouse capacity utilisation
Develop, coach, and support team members to enhance capability and performance
Drive continuous improvement initiatives and manage employee relations where required About You
Proven experience in a leadership role within terminal operations, logistics, or a similar environment
Strong people management and communication skills, with the ability to lead large teams
Commercially aware, with experience managing budgets and analysing operational performance data
Solid understanding of cargo handling, yard operations, and equipment management
Stevedore experience would be advantageous
IT proficient, including Microsoft Office; experience with terminal systems is beneficial
Full UK driving licence
Knowledge of ISO standards (9001, 14001, 45001) desirable
