If so, you could be a great fit for our Room Leader role at Childcare @ Sandal – managing the delivery of high-quality nursery provision for young children and their families in accordance with current guidance and legislation. Building relationships with small groups of children and their parents/carers as a Key Worker. Taking particular responsibility for a team as directed by the Manager and needs of the organisation.
The successful applicants will have a minimum of 2 years’ experience working within a childcare setting and hold a level 3 Childcare qualification. You should have experience of mentoring/leading staff too and be able to support staff to deliver a curriculum that excites and motivates children’s learning.
Salary
Starting salary will be dependent on the experience of the successful candidate and will be discussed at job offer. This will be in the region of £22,500-£26,500 (St George’s Band C).
Hours
37 hours per week all year round, Monday – Friday.

Purpose of the Job
To manage the delivery of high quality nursery provision for young children and their families in accordance with current guidance and legislation. Building relationships with small groups of children and their parents/carers as a Key Worker. Taking particular responsibility for a designated room as directed by the Manager and needs of the organisation.
Key Tasks
A: Areas of Responsibility
- To lead the delivery of high quality nursery provision for young children on a day-to-day basis. To lead on reviewing, planning and implementing quality improvements within the designated room.
- To lead and implement a system of planning suited to the developmental needs of young children having regard to current guidance and legislation.
- To lead and support Key Workers within the room and support them to keep accurate up to date records on children’s development and progress.
- To lead, model and be actively involved in children’s play opportunities indoors and outdoors, in a way that encourages children to be independent active learners.
- To assist the SENCO as required by current guidance and legislation for children with identified additional needs.
- To work in partnership with all parents/carers who use the Nursery, ensuring that their needs and those of individual children are met as far as is reasonable.
- To support the Nursery Manager in ensuring that all the requirements of Health and Safety, and other relevant guidance and legislation are in place.
- To ensure all information about children, is shared and recorded appropriately, ensuring that the principals of confidentiality are maintained within current guidance, policy and legislation.
- To work closely with other professionals to ensure better outcomes for children.
B: People Management
- To actively contribute to supervisions and appraisals to support your own development and welfare and ensure work plans are delivered and targets met.
- To ensure that you maintain and update your professional knowledge and skills, keeping up to date with current guidance, policy and legislation.
- To be responsible for the direction of staff in the designated room on a day to day basis.
- To direct the work of any volunteers, students or apprentices within the designated room.
C: Operational and Business Management
- To support the Nursery Manager to provide accurate up to date information and reports on the progress of the Nursery.
- To comply with data protection and information sharing systems.
D: Safety, Equality & Diversity, Quality and Safeguarding
- To comply with current guidance; legislation and the organisations safeguarding policies for children and vulnerable adults and follow procedures as required.
- To comply with the organisations equality and diversity policy.
- To support any work undertaken by the organisation aimed at maintaining and improving quality.
E: Scope of Responsibility
E1 Responsibility for Supervision, Direction of Employees
- Day to day responsibility for leading and directing up to six members of staff.
- Regularly take responsibility for up to two volunteers, apprentices, work experience and trainees within the designated room at any one time.
- No responsibility for staff supervision and appraisals.
E2 Responsibility for Physical Resources
- Day to day responsibility for the maintenance and hygiene of nursery equipment within the designated room.
- 2-3 hours per week routine computer input.
E3 Responsibility for Budgets
- Occasionally receive and receipt of fees from parents.
- Very occasional use of petty cash within petty cash procedure.
E4 Level of Contacts, Customers and Clients
- Lead a team of up to six people to ensure the correct information and guidance is given to parents or professionals.
- Regular dealings with parents or carers and children, to meet, greet, settle and make welcome in the relevant setting.
- Provide routine feedback to parents on children’s progress.
- Occasional meetings with other childcare professionals both internal and external to discuss the progress of the child.
- Undertakes regular observations, and assessments and produce written reports on key children within their care.
E5 Levels of Independence and Initiative
- Responsible for the daily activity of the children in their care, in line with the appropriate Planning Procedure.
- Regular contact with Manager or deputy manager, who is always available for reference purposes.
- Responsible for day to day organisational decisions within the room, all other decisions would require the agreement of the Nursery Manager.
E5 Working Conditions and demands
- Will be expected to work indoors and outdoors in all weathers.
- Care for children’s intimate needs.
- After hours attendance for training/staff meeting on a monthly basis and occasionally for emergencies relating to children.
- There is a requirement to lift, bend, stretch and carry children.
