Job Description - Sales Engineer/ Sales Executive (Machinery / Equipment)

A. POSITION SUMMARY

To achieve personal sales targets by cross selling and serving all equipment product range to area assigned, except for key client accounts using technical, organizational, and customer knowledge to convince customers in assigned areas and assist them in applying the products/solutions to their needs resulting in revenue generation.

B. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

To ensure the meeting of sales quota goals and the generation of revenue developing and delivering sales presentations and close sales in a professional and effective manner by:

  • Following up on sales leads, referrals and making regular sales/cold calls on potential customers.
  • Assess customers' needs and explain and demonstrate products to them which may involve providing technical descriptions of products and describing the purposes and potential for which they may be used.
  • Making presentations to customers. 
  • With assistance from Sales Manager, provide quotation and negotiate prices and sales/ delivery terms, prepare contracts and record orders.
  • Acting to close deals & finalize contacts.
  • Resolving problems with products and services – with the assistance of Sales Manager when required. 
  • Working with Vermeer Office and Service staff to ensure delivery to customers to ensure maintenance of service quality and other follow-up.
  • Establishing long-term, ongoing repeat relationships.
  • Maintaining up-to-date awareness of competitors’ activities, industry trends, product development & government regulations.
  • Meeting established sales quotas and revenue goals. 
  • Follow-up on collection of payment by assisting Vermeer Ops & Admin Manager in monitoring debtor list to ensure customers pay within the credit period.
  • Follow-up with customers by being available during machine commission and handover of equipment with Service team.

To ensure effective market plans & continued revenue stream by participating in sales forecasting and planning in an effective manner by:

  • Be aware of product & service marketability in terms of customers’ technical & business needs 
  • Maintaining an up-to-date awareness of strategic plans and procedures to coordinate market plans 
  • Regularly updating promotional/ sales materials to target identified customers 

Monitoring, analyzing, & communicating monthly sales data to contribute to product/service planning via monthly sales report.

C. SECONDARY FUNCTION

  • Divert request of non-standard customer request or equipment to General Manager.
  • Participate in marketing events such as seminars, trade shows, and telemarketing events.

D. PRIORITIES

Maintaining a working knowledge of Products & Solutions

Articulate/ present/ emphasize sellable features of all standard equipment 

Working with a wide variety of individuals at customer levels ranging from Managing Directors to service technicians 

High pressure, constantly changing environment 

Tracking rapidly changing competition & market forces 

Meeting established sales goals and quotas 

Selling "solutions and concepts" to equipment and industry customers 

Maintain and enhance customers’ satisfaction

Travel: on average 2 - 3 visits per day.

F. OTHER INFORMATION

  1. Education & Experience:

Min Degree education in Engineering or related technical field and preferably 3-5 years of field sales experience for Sales Engineer/ Sales Executive (Machinery Equipment) position.

2. Specialized Knowledge, Skills & Ability:

Sales skills: pre-sales, sales and post sales techniques

Marketing and market planning knowledge 

In-depth knowledge of target market industries 

Class A1 driving license and/ or possess a motor cycle

Excellent customer relations skills 

Friendly and sincere 

Able to work without direct supervision 

Neat, hygienic and professional appearance 

Excellent verbal, presentation and written communication skills 

Demonstrates effective negotiation and closing techniques 

Works well in a team environment
