About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and highly capable Project Manager to lead the delivery of a portfolio of strategic projects that support key organisational priorities. This is an opportunity to work on complex, high-impact initiatives, providing leadership, structure and oversight to ensure projects are delivered to time, cost and quality expectations.

The role operates in a dynamic environment and requires a strong focus on governance, risk management, stakeholder engagement and evidence-based decision making.

About the role

As Project Manager, you will lead the end-to-end delivery of a complex, high-risk strategic project that is critical to achieving organisational objectives. You will be accountable for project planning, governance, risk management, stakeholder engagement and delivery outcomes.

You will:

• Lead the development and delivery of a complex project, identifying interdependencies and leveraging resources to maximise efficiencies and achieve required organisation outcomes.

• Establish and maintain appropriate governance, reporting and assurance arrangements.

• Manage stakeholder relationships through effective communication, negotiation and issues management to ensure stakeholders are engaged throughout the project and project deliverables are met.


• Provide expert advice and information to stakeholders on emerging project issues and present recommendations to support project delivery in line with established plans, budgets, timeframes, policy objectives and other project priorities.


• Develop and produce high-quality submissions, comprehensive house folder notes, and detailed briefing papers addressing issues that arise from daily operations. This includes crafting well-informed responses to a diverse array of correspondence received by the department, ensuring clarity and accuracy in communication while supporting informed decision-making.


• Oversee research and formulate recommendations to support evidence-based project planning and decision making.

About you

You are an experienced project management professional with a proven ability to deliver complex projects in high-risk or fast-paced environments. You bring strong leadership, analytical and communication skills, and are comfortable navigating governance, risk and stakeholder expectations.

You will bring:

• Demonstrated experience managing complex, multi-stream projects from initiation through to delivery and evaluation.


• Strong understanding of project governance, risk management, benefits realisation and reporting.


• Strong understanding of workplace health and safety legislation and regulatory frameworks.


• Direct experience working with regulatory bodies (e.g., safety regulators, work health and safety authorities).


• Highly developed stakeholder engagement, communication and negotiation skills.


• Experience preparing high-quality written material, including briefs, submissions and recommendations for senior decision-makers.


• A proactive, solutions-focused approach and the ability to think critically and strategically.

Essential requirements of the role

• Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and/or demonstrated equivalent knowledge, skills and experience.


• Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.


• Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
