Senior Payroll Officer

The Opportunity

We're partnering with a well-established, purpose-led organisation in the care and community sector to recruit an experienced Senior Payroll Officer on a contract basis.

This is an immediate start role suited to someone who can step into a hands-on environment and take ownership of payroll operations in a high-volume, award-driven setting.

You'll be joining a supportive finance team where accuracy, timeliness and strong stakeholder communication are critical to ensuring staff are paid correctly and on time.

Key Responsibilities

• End-to-end processing of payroll across a large, multi-site workforce
• Interpret and apply relevant awards (SCHADS/Aged Care or similar), EBAs and legislation
• Manage payroll queries, resolving discrepancies quickly and accurately
• Maintain employee payroll records, including new starters, terminations and variations
• Process timesheets, allowances, penalties and leave entitlements
• Ensure compliance with superannuation, tax and statutory requirements
• Perform payroll reconciliations (payroll, super, PAYG)
• Support month-end reporting and audit requests
• Identify and improve payroll processes where possible
• Work closely with HR and finance to ensure data integrity across systems

About You

• Proven experience in a Senior Payroll Officer role within a high-volume environment
• Strong knowledge of awards/EBA interpretation (healthcare, aged care or NFP highly regarded)
• Confident managing end-to-end payroll with minimal supervision
• High attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and compliance
• ERP/payroll system experience (e.g. Chris21, iChris, Preceda, TechnologyOne or similar)
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage competing deadlines
• Clear, professional communication style with a proactive approach
