2027 Upper Gastro Intestinal Research Fellow
Eastern Health
Eastern Health is one of Melbourne’s largest public health services. We provide a range of emergency, surgical, medical and general healthcare services and have a proud history of serving a diverse community.
Our Employee Value Proposition is “Being a part of Eastern Health means belonging to a welcoming team of healthcare experts”.
This statement aligns with our promise to our communities, patients, consumers and staff that we will be HEALTHIER TOGETHER. Bolder than a vision for the future, our promise calls us to action. We know that working together is the only way we can achieve what is necessary for a healthier future.
About the role
This fellowship is primarily based at Box Hill Hospital and is intended for applicants who hold the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) or an equivalent specialist qualification.
The Upper Gastrointestinal (UGI) Unit has extensive expertise in the management of both benign and malignant upper gastrointestinal conditions, with a particular focus on complex upper GI oncology and hiatus hernia repair. The successful candidate will gain broad clinical and operative exposure across these areas, with increasing opportunities to develop experience in robotic-assisted surgery as the unit continues to expand its robotic program.
In addition to the clinical experience, the fellowship provides opportunities to participate in clinical research, supporting academic development and contributing to ongoing innovation within the service. The role also includes opportunities for private assisting, providing further operative exposure and professional growth.
As with all fellows within the department, the successful candidate will be expected to participate in the unit's on-call roster, including responsibilities for general surgical admissions, as part of a collaborative team committed to delivering high-quality patient care.
