Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Tutor

Summary

As a Cultural Tutor, you will enhance the awareness and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and culture through the presentation of the Ngutana-Lui Cultural Visitation Program and other performance opportunities. This role requires a strong understanding of, and experience in, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women’s cultural roles, responsibilities and perspectives, ensuring cultural knowledge is shared in a respectful and culturally appropriate manner. Together with other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander personnel and the support programs, you will contribute in a significant way to Brisbane Catholic Education’s commitment to Reconciliation through Education in a peaceful working environment.

• Work hours: Part-Time | 25 Hours


• Salary: $80,318 - $90,762 pro rata ($40 - $45 per hour) plus super


• Status: Part-Time Fixed Term | October – December 2026

About the opportunity

In this position you will: 

• Present the Visitation Program and other cultural performances and presentations


• Prepare for and creatively adapt the program and presentations according to your own particular areas of expertise and cultural heritage in women’s roles, and as appropriate to the particular audience


• Contribute to the cultural capabilities' and growth of BCE staff and students within BCE schools 


• Contribute the cultural of knowledge and provide support to assist BCEO in the connection, development and implementation of its Reconciliation Action Plan


• Enhancing practices and processes for continuous improvement


• Prioritising workload and tasks, and resolving issues as required


• Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to address needs and respond to requests

About you

To be successful in this position you will bring relevant contemporary skills and experience including:   

• To perform this role, it is essential that the person is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. BCE considers that being an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is a genuine occupational requirement for this position under Section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld) as amended


• Qualification in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and culture


• Highly developed oral communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and sensitively


• Extensive knowledge and understanding of traditional and contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, society and issues which impact on their communities


• Experience in developing and presenting cultural programs that focus on the following areas; women’s roles, bushfoods, medicines, and weaving (knowledge of song and dance would be highly valued)


• Contribute as a team and the ability to work individually


• Opportunity to share own cultural knowledge with people from a variety of age groups. E.g. Prep-Year 12 and adults.


• Drivers licence to travel when required to schools and events.
