Job Description - Academic Support Officer

Role type: Full Time (1.0 FTE); Continuing 
Faculty: Faculty of Science 
Department/ School: School of Geography, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences 
Salary: UOM 5: $86,943 - $99,864 p.a. plus 17% super

Your next career opportunity  
You will deliver highquality administrative support for academic programmes, advising staff and students on progression and policy while coordinating subject operations, assessments and LMS activity. You will develop practical expertise in governance processes, committee support and student casework, working collaboratively across schools and Faculty professional teams to improve student experience. 

What you will deliver:  

  • Course and Subject Administration: Coordinate timetabling, curriculum changes, exam logistics, handbook updates and routine EndofSubject survey administration. 

  • Student Case Management and Academic Integrity: Support Special Consideration, results amendments and academic misconduct processes, preparing accurate documentation and escalating complex matters. 

  • Assessment, Results and Digital Operations: Process results and reassessments, maintain data integrity and use enterprise and LMS tools to produce routine reports and enable efficient workflows. 

  • Committee and Event Support: Provide committee administration (agendas, minutes), support School teaching activities and facilitate student engagement events such as orientation and Open Day. 

  • Continuous Improvement and Policy Advice: Provide consistent, policyaligned guidance to staff and students and contribute to process improvements and quality assurance. 

You may be a great fit if:  

  • You have a degree with subsequent relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. 

  • You are a clear communicator who prepares accurate documentation and liaises confidently with academic and central teams. 

  • You possess practical experience with LMS and enterprise systems to support subject administration and reporting. 

  • You have experience coordinating assessment workflows, results processing and Special Consideration administration. 

  • You are comfortable supporting committees, taking minutes and following up on actions. 

  • You are adaptable, serviceoriented and committed to inclusive student support.

Your new team – The School of Geography, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences 

The School of Geography, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences was formally established in 2021, following the merger of the Schools of Geography and Earth Sciences. The new School synergises discipline strengths in geography, atmospheric science and geoscience. The School offers undergraduate and graduate research programs in these core discipline areas, and in the multi-disciplinary fields of Climate Change, Environmental Science and Archaeological Science. The research within the School is built upon extensive expertise in geography, geoscience and atmospheric science, ranging from the social sciences through to the quantitative physical sciences. In addition to internationally recognised discipline expertise, we have strengths in a number of multi-disciplinary areas including climate change; resource futures; space, place and social change; environmental hazards; Indigenous knowledge; and Earth system interactions.
