Assistant Accountant

We are seeking a skilled Assistant Accountant/Bookkeeper to join a prestigious and historic organisation located in the heart of Newcastle CBD.

About the Role:
This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate with a strong background in bookkeeping or assistant accounting to take on a vital role within an established team. You will be responsible for a wide range of financial tasks, including reconciliations, payroll processing, reporting, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Reconciliation of various accounts, including member, asset clearing, credit cards, and payroll.
• Processing payroll, checking journals, and lodging payroll tax.
• Preparation and presentation of financial statements, including profit and loss, balance sheets, and cash flow.
• Management of GST, PAYG, BAS, and superannuation lodgements.
• Oversight of accounts payable and receivable functions.
• Annual financial reconciliations and liaison with auditors.
• Budget preparation and cost updates.
• Attendance at finance sub-committee meetings and supporting reporting requirements.

About You:
To excel in this role, you will possess:

• Proven experience in bookkeeping, assistant accounting, or a similar role.
• Strong understanding of financial systems, reconciliations, and reporting.
• High attention to detail with the ability to investigate and resolve imbalances.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Proficiency in relevant software and tools.
