About the Opportunity

CRD is a specialist division within Crawford that provides forensic engineering and technical building consultancy services to the insurance industry.

As a Graduate Forensic Engineer, you will support senior engineers in the investigation and reporting of structural failures, construction defects, water ingress issues, foundation movement and other building-related matters.

You will assist with site inspections, evidence collection, documentation review and preparation of draft technical reports. The role provides structured exposure to forensic investigation processes, construction methodologies, defect identification and the application of relevant codes and Australian Standards.

This is a hands-on technical role offering a strong combination of field investigations and report preparation, with the opportunity to develop deep expertise in building science and forensic engineering.

About You

You are a motivated and technically curious engineering graduate who is eager to develop specialist skills in forensic investigation and building analysis.

You can demonstrate:
  • Recently completed or currently completing a tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Building Engineering, Construction Management or similar
  • Strong academic foundation in structural design, construction materials or building science
  • Clear and professional written communication skills
  • High attention to detail and analytical thinking ability
  • Genuine interest in construction methodologies and defect analysis
  • Ability to work collaboratively under guidance from senior engineers
  • Professional and objective approach to investigations

Key Requirements
  • Basic understanding of the Building Code of Australia and relevant Australian Standards
  • Ability to assist with site investigations including measurements, photographic documentation and evidence gathering
  • Strong report-writing capability with structured and logical presentation
  • IT competency across reporting and documentation systems
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Professional presentation when engaging with clients and stakeholders

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist senior engineers with field investigations across residential, commercial and industrial sites
  • Gather site data including measurements, observations and photographic evidence
  • Support investigations into structural failures, foundation movement, water ingress and building system defects
  • Contribute to technical analysis in accordance with relevant codes and standards
  • Prepare draft technical reports for review by senior engineers
  • Assist with preparation of scopes of works and cost considerations
  • Maintain impartiality and professionalism throughout all investigations
  • Ensure work is completed in accordance with Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and policy considerations
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities
