Casual Academic Eligibility List Social Work Field External Supervisors

The School of Social Sciences, Western Sydney University, invites expressions of interest from qualified social workers who are interested in casual academic work to participate in the external supervision of Social Work students on placement.



Social Work represents one of the largest programs in the School of Social Sciences, offering both undergraduate and postgraduate accredited degrees. The positions of casual Social Work Supervisors exist to meet the requirements in accordance with the Social Work degree, to provide Social Work students on placement with supervision by a qualified social worker. The opportunity to have supervision, explore social work themes, relate theories to practice, engage in anti-oppressive and anti-discriminatory practice, and undertake reflective practice is a key aspect of these roles.



The Opportunity

• The external supervision of Social Work students on placement
• External supervision will be conducted in groups and individual sessions with students
• Participate in two 30-minute online placement visits for each supervised student to provide feedback about student progress

Availability

Supervision opportunities may arise throughout Autumn and Spring semesters.



About You

• Applicants are required to have a minimum of five years’ experience working in the field.
• Eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW), i.e. qualified social work with a minimum of five years’ post-qualifying experience
• Demonstrated experience of social work student supervision, and an understanding of what the requirements are for social work placements, as per the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
• Ability to work collaboratively within teaching teams
• Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to negotiate, resolve conflict, and build productive and harmonious workplace relationships with a student
• Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence and establish effective working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including relevant professional networks, agencies and organisations
• Demonstrated organisational and administrative skills, including coordinating and completing documentation to adhere to firm and competing deadlines
