We are seeking individuals with experience in large commercial businesses, motor fleet, farm and packaged products. Your new role As a Commercial Underwriter, you will manage a portfolio across SME commercial and farm risks, focusing on both new business and renewals. This is not a high-volume, transactional environment - instead, you'll work closely with internal teams to deliver tailored underwriting decisions and maintain strong relationships across the business. Key responsibilities include:
Managing new business, renewals, and endorsements across SME and farm portfolios
Assessing risks across a range of commercial products (ISR exposure beneficial)
Collaborating closely with sales, admin, and referral teams to manage workflow
Building strong internal relationships to support business outcomes
Handling underwriting queries and providing technical support
Maintaining high standards of quality and attention to detail
Supporting ongoing portfolio growth through sound underwriting decisions
What you'll need to succeed
Experience in commercial underwriting (SME / ISR / Personal Lines and/or farm exposure)
Knowledge of Commercial Packages, Motor Fleet and Commercial wordings
Competent knowledge of renewals process
Ability to work alongside Authorised Rep's to build client relationships
A strong attention to detail and excellent stakeholder management skills
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
Cert IV or Diploma in General Insurance (would be advantageous)
Australian Citizenship or Permanent Residency
What you'll get in return
Salary circa $110K-$130K (depending on experience)
Ideally flexible working arrangements in the Newcastle office, but remote from Sydney or Brisbane will be considered (with occasional travel)
