DescriptionHarmony Australasia is seeking an experienced Construction Supervisor to support major civil and tailings infrastructure projects across Australia and Papua New Guinea.
Reporting to the Manager Construction as well as interfacing closely with our Mine Senior Leadership (Project Owners), this role provides on-site leadership for both greenfield and brownfield tailings dam as well as key civil infrastructure construction at surface, ensuring work is delivered safely, on schedule, and to required quality standards. You will coordinate daily construction activities, manage contractor performance, support operational interface planning, and ensure all works comply with regulatory permits and licence conditions. This role is ideal for a proactive supervisor with strong civil construction including mine tailing's dams experience, a commitment to safe delivery, and the ability to work effectively with diverse project and operational teams.
ROSTER:
Initial focus is a constructing a new Tailings Dam to support our Mine Operations in PNG as well as supporting the next Stage 9 Mine Expansion works. This role offers a dynamic, balanced schedule that combines on site impact with Brisbane based flexibility:
- 9 focused days on site in PNG
- 5-day break to recharge
- Two 5-day Brisbane weeks, with flexibility to work from home up to two days each week.
Responsibilities- Lead safe, compliant construction delivery, ensuring Safety in Design, risk assessments and mine site legislative requirements are met.
- Support the Manager Construction in implementing best practice systems, processes and tools.
- Contribute to tender evaluations, contractor selection and contract conditions.
- Coordinate planning for all site works, including Work Orders, SOWs, job plans and shutdown schedules.
- Manage contractor mobilisation, site establishment and compliance of equipment and tools.
- Maintain safe work fronts through effective critical controls, barricading, access/egress and communication systems.
- Oversee contractor hours, inductions, accommodation, shutdown requirements and training.
- Record and close out incidents with documented investigations and lessons learned.
- Maintain accurate, revision controlled construction documentation in SharePoint.
- Provide coaching on Safety in Construction and share learnings from previous projects.
- Manage site instructions, day works and variations through formal change management.
- Oversee QA/QC activities and ensure compliance with ITPs.
- Work with OEMs, vendors and specialists to deliver works aligned with design intent.
- Facilitate walk downs, punch list close out and red lining of IFC documentation.
- Support Operational Readiness, MOC processes and commissioning planning.
- Participate in project debriefs to capture lessons learned and improvement actions.
- Conduct regular VFSLs, inspections and audits across construction areas.
- Act as a Safety Ambassador, promoting zero harm and reinforcing HGM values.
Qualifications- Tertiary qualifications (trade, engineering) with 10–15 years ‘hands on’ experience in mining or heavy earthworks and civils.
- Experience in tailings dam (TSF) construction, embankment raises, bulk earth / civil works, roadworks in an Operational environment.
- Strong ability to interpret engineering plans and translate design intent into safe, compliant field delivery and managing competing priorities
- Demonstrated understanding of construction contracts, KPI management and mine site execution requirements.
- Knowledge of WHS legislation (Aus/PNG) and ability to apply company policies and procedures.
- Proven stakeholder management, effective communications and reporting skills / capability, with experience coordinating and managing multiple work fronts.
- Proficiency in MS Office, MS Project, SharePoint, Teams and incident management systems; familiarity with Pronto or equivalent.
