Classification: $133,353.30 - $140,374.45 base salary + super (depending on experience)

Are you an experienced environmental health professional ready to lead services that make a meaningful difference to the community?

As the Coordinator Environmental Health, you’ll provide leadership and direction for the City’s environmental health services. You’ll oversee regulatory functions that protect public health, support legislative compliance and maintain community confidence in the City’s services.

This is an opportunity to lead a capable and engaged team, guide complex regulatory activities and drive improvements that help the City respond effectively to emerging public health risks and changing community needs.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Lead the delivery of the City’s environmental health services, including statutory programs, surveillance, compliance and enforcement activities
• Coordinate statutory inspection and surveillance programs, public health assessments, risk-based investigations and complaint management
• Provide lawful, accurate and evidence-based advice to support accountable regulatory decisions and outcomes
• Lead, mentor and develop employees while promoting a positive, inclusive and high-performing team culture
• Coordinate workloads, resources and programs to meet statutory timeframes, operational objectives and service standards
• Identify and respond to emerging public health risks, legislative reforms, disease outbreaks and changing community requirements
• Drive continuous improvement, innovation and business process enhancements across environmental health services
• Build effective relationships with government agencies, industry representatives, community stakeholders and internal business units
• Contribute to business planning, financial management, resource allocation, reporting and performance monitoring
• Promote responsive, professional and equitable customer service while balancing legislative requirements, public health outcomes and community expectations

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for an experienced and collaborative leader who can confidently balance regulatory responsibilities, customer expectations and positive public health outcomes.

You’ll bring:

• Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Health, or equivalent qualifications approved by the Chief Health Officer
• Substantial demonstrated experience in environmental health
• Strong knowledge of relevant legislation and statutory processes
• Demonstrated operational management capability, including recruitment, training, employee supervision, performance management and mentoring
• Experience measuring and evaluating service performance and customer service outcomes
• The ability to exercise sound decision-making and judgement in a logical, lawful and accountable manner
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to negotiate effectively at all levels
• Demonstrated ability to develop innovative strategies and maintain contemporary professional practice
• A current driver’s licence
• The ability to obtain a National Police Clearance issued within the previous three months

Formal leadership or management qualifications, management experience and relevant local government experience will be highly regarded.
