The Opportunity

Contract role – 6 month contract

We're looking for a Databricks Architect to own the design and delivery of complex data platform transformations — migrations, modernisation, and optimisation, primarily on Databricks. You'll work directly with enterprise clients, technical leaders, data engineers, and delivery teams to understand what exists today, define where it needs to go, and get it there.

This role suits someone who's genuinely comfortable moving between architecture, hands-on engineering, and client advisory — not just designing the target state, but staying close enough to implementation to make sure it actually lands.

What you'll do

• Own the architecture and technical design of Databricks transformation and migration programs


• Assess legacy data platforms and define pragmatic migration strategies


• Design modern Lakehouse architectures using Databricks and associated cloud technologies


• Build migration approaches for data warehouses, data lakes, ETL/ELT platforms, and legacy data estates


• Design data transformation, ingestion, and processing pipelines for batch and streaming workloads


• Architect across Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Databricks Workflows, Delta Live Tables/Lakeflow, and Spark


• Establish data governance, security, lineage, and access control standards


• Develop workload optimisation, performance tuning, and cost management approaches


• Run technical discovery workshops with clients and translate business needs into architecture


• Produce architecture documentation, technical designs, and migration roadmaps


• Provide technical guidance to data engineers and other technical staff


• Support proof-of-concepts and complex technical problem-solving
  

What you'll bring

• Azure Data Factory, Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, or other Azure services


• Unity Catalog and enterprise Databricks governance


• Databricks SQL and serverless architectures


• CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code


• Real-time/streaming architectures


• Databricks + AI/ML platform integration


• Databricks certifications (Data Engineer or Data Architect)


• Experience in regulated or large enterprise environments
