Spiecapag has been delivering large-scale pipeline infrastructure and drilling projects across Australia and the Asia Pacific region for more than 20 years. This fixed-term opportunity will support a major Adelaide pipeline project, with the role expected to run from October 2026 to February 2028 and potential extension for the right applicant. 

About this role 

We’re seeking an experienced Environmental Manager to lead environmental management and compliance for a major pipeline project in Adelaide, South Australia. This is a site-based leadership role with direct accountability for the project’s environmental management system, approvals and licence compliance, field implementation, reporting, regulator interface and environmental risk controls. The role requires a practical, construction-focused environmental leader who can work closely with project management, construction teams, subcontractors and the client to prevent environmental incidents, drive accountability, and ensure works are delivered in accordance with project, regulatory and permitting requirements. 

Key responsibilities 

• Lead the project environmental management system, including plans, procedures, permits, licences, inspections, registers and reporting requirements.


• Drive environmental performance by identifying risks early, implementing effective field controls, and ensuring actions are assigned, tracked and closed out.


• Provide practical environmental leadership and guidance to construction teams, supervisors and subcontractors across pipeline construction activities.


• Manage key environmental risks, including dewatering, water quality, erosion and sediment control, contaminated land, spoil, waste, noise, dust, biosecurity, hydrotest discharge and sensitive receiving environments.


• Oversee audits, inspections, incident investigations, non-conformances and corrective actions to ensure timely, auditable close-out.


• Prepare and submit environmental reports, regulatory notifications, licence-related documentation and client compliance deliverables.


• Lead environmental training, toolbox talks and coaching to build crew and subcontractor accountability.


• Act as the environmental interface with the client, regulators, subcontractors, consultants and other stakeholders.
  

About you 

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management or a related discipline.


• Minimum 5 years’ environmental management and compliance experience on construction or infrastructure projects, including senior or project environmental leadership experience.


• Proven experience on linear infrastructure projects, ideally including pipeline construction, major civil works, right-of-way construction, horizontal directional drilling or trenchless crossings.


• Strong knowledge of South Australian environmental legislation, EPA requirements, CEMPs, licences, approvals, notifications and ISO 14001-based systems.


• Experience managing high-risk environmental matters such as dewatering, water quality, erosion and sediment control, contaminated land, spoil, waste, hydrotest water and sensitive receiving environments.


• CPESC, Registered Soil Practitioner or equivalent erosion and sediment control capability is strongly preferred.


• Strong leadership, decision-making and communication skills, with the confidence to guide project teams, engage stakeholders and stop or redirect works where controls are inadequate.
  

Role locations & travel 

The role is based in Adelaide, South Australia, supporting a 1-2 year pipeline project. The preferred candidate will be local to Adelaide; however, fly-in fly-out arrangements may be considered for the right applicant. The position is expected to commence in October 2026 and continue through to February 2028, with potential extension subject to project requirements and candidate suitability. Construction operates on an 11-hour workday during active project delivery, and the project is anticipated to operate seven days per week. The Environmental Manager will be required to work an agreed construction roster to meet the role’s responsibilities.
