Environmental Services Supervisor

About the role:

The Environmental Services Department (ESD) Supervisor plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, clean and welcoming environment for patients, staff and visitors at Sunshine Hospital. This position leads and coordinates Environmental Services staff to deliver high-quality cleaning and support services, ensuring compliance with infection prevention standards and operational requirements. The role contributes directly to Western Health’s commitment to providing exceptional, person-centred care through a safe and hygienic healthcare environment.

Key responsibilities:

• Lead and supervise Environmental Services staff, including Patient Services Assistants and cleaners


• Ensure all clinical and non-clinical areas meet Victorian Health cleaning and hygiene standards


• Monitor service delivery, conduct audits and address compliance or performance issues


• Support infection control, occupational health and safety, and emergency response processes


• Coordinate support services such as waste management, linen handling, patient transport and stock control

About you:

• Demonstrated experience in a supervisory or team leadership role within healthcare or a similar environment


• Strong understanding of cleaning standards, infection control and workplace safety practices


• Excellent communication skills with a commitment to high-quality customer service


• Ability to prioritise workload, make sound decisions and work under pressure


• Competency in basic computer systems and a proactive, team-oriented approach
