We’re looking for experienced Field Service Diesel Fitters to join our team in Toowoomba, supporting our customers across the Darling Downs region.
In this role, you’ll diagnose, repair and maintain a wide range of Caterpillar equipment and diesel generators across various customer sites. This is a Permanent, Monday to Friday role.
What you’ll be doing
As a Field Service Diesel Fitter at Hastings Deering, you will:
- Deliver expert mechanical service – carry out diagnostics, repairs and maintenance on Caterpillar mobile plant and diesel generator systems across customer sites.
- Lead field-based problem solving – respond to breakdowns, identify faults quickly and implement effective solutions to get equipment back online.
- Maintain equipment reliability – perform scheduled servicing and component change-outs to keep customer fleets operating safely and efficiently.
- Operate independently – work autonomously across the Darling Downs region, managing your workload while maintaining strong customer relationships.
- Apply technical precision – use Caterpillar systems, service information and diagnostic tooling to ensure all work meets OEM standards.
- Champion safety every time – follow all safety procedures, risk assessments and site requirements to uphold our No Harm culture.

What you’ll need
A successful teammate will have:
- Trade qualifications – Certificate III in Mobile Plant Technology, Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent diesel fitter trade.
- Caterpillar product knowledge – experience working on CAT machinery, systems and diagnostic tooling (Desirable but not essential).
- Generator expertise – strong hands-on experience servicing and repairing Caterpillar diesel generators in field environments.
- Strong troubleshooting skills – ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical and hydraulic faults independently.
- Customer-focused mindset – confident in building relationships, managing expectations and providing clear updates.
- Safety-first approach – committed to maintaining high WHS standards at all times.
- Valid driver’s licence – required to travel between customer sites across the Darling Downs region.
