Tasmines is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Financial Controller to join our team in Burnie, Tasmania.
This is a key leadership role for a qualified accountant who combines strong financial expertise with commercial thinking. You’ll work closely with senior leadership and operational teams to provide financial insight, strengthen business performance, and support the continued growth of the business.
About the Role
Reporting to senior leadership, you will oversee the financial management and reporting function while partnering with the broader business to drive strong commercial outcomes.
This is more than a reporting role. You’ll be expected to understand the numbers, challenge performance, identify opportunities, and provide practical advice that supports better business decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the day-to-day financial management and reporting function
Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
Manage budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and financial planning
Provide commercial analysis and insights to support business decisions
Partner with operational leaders to monitor costs, margins, and financial performance
Develop and monitor financial KPIs and provide clear reporting to senior leadership
Identify cost-saving opportunities and areas for improved financial performance
Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger activities
Manage month-end and year-end processes, reconciliations, and financial reporting
Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, taxation requirements, and internal controls
Support business planning, investment decisions, and capital expenditure analysis
Work with external accountants, auditors, banks, and other financial stakeholders
Improve financial systems, processes, controls, and reporting capability
About You
You’re a commercially focused finance professional who can move comfortably between detailed financial analysis and high-level business discussions.
You’ll bring:
CA, CPA, or equivalent accounting qualification
Significant experience in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager, or senior accounting role
Strong commercial and financial management experience
Proven experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling, and performance analysis
Strong understanding of management accounting and financial reporting
Experience partnering with operational and senior leadership teams
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong Excel and financial systems capability
High attention to detail with a practical and commercially focused approach
Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain financial information clearly
Experience in mining, manufacturing, processing, heavy industry, or other operational environments will be highly regarded.
