Job Description - GIS Analyst

About the role

Band 4 – salary from $103,000 + super (final offer based on skills and experience)

TasNetworks is seeking an experienced GIS Analyst to support the delivery of the North West Transmission Developments (NWTD) — one of Tasmania’s most significant infrastructure programs. In this role, you will enable high‑quality spatial data, mapping and analysis that underpin project planning, design, governance and decision‑making across all phases of the program.

Working closely with the Senior GIS Analyst, project leads and multidisciplinary teams, you will manage geospatial datasets, ensure data integrity, and produce high‑quality spatial outputs that support engineering, environmental, stakeholder and governance requirements. Your work will directly contribute to the safe, efficient and compliant delivery of major transmission infrastructure.

What you’ll do

  • Support the implementation of NWTD’s Spatial Systems and Data Management Plans across all project phases.

  • Manage, maintain and utilise geospatial datasets in collaboration with the Senior GIS Analyst and project teams.

  • Produce high‑quality maps, spatial analysis outputs and visualisations to support project planning, design and reporting.

  • Provide quality assurance for spatial data, ensuring compliance with NWTD data standards and governance requirements.

  • Prepare and maintain geospatial products and services across on‑premises and cloud‑based environments.

  • Monitor spatial data management practices, recommend improvements and support the implementation of spatial procedures.

  • Work closely with internal teams, TasNetworks stakeholders and external partners to ensure consistent, accurate and timely spatial information.

  • Support integration of geospatial data with project systems, including web services, ModelBuilder workflows and Python (ArcPy) where applicable.

About you

You are an experienced GIS professional who thrives in a fast‑paced project environment and enjoys working with complex spatial datasets. You bring strong technical capability, excellent communication skills and a commitment to high‑quality spatial outputs that support project success.

You will bring:

  • A tertiary qualification in Geospatial Science or a related discipline.

  • At least 5 years’ experience with ESRI ArcGIS, including ArcGIS Pro, across diverse applications.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage, analyse and quality‑assure large and complex spatial datasets.

  • Experience working in environments with high stakeholder scrutiny and strong governance requirements.

  • Strong map production, presentation and communication skills.

  • Experience documenting data agreements, developing GIS frameworks or spatial data procedures (desirable).

  • Understanding of GIS integrations, web services, ModelBuilder and Python (ArcPy) (beneficial).

  • Familiarity with LiDAR and aerial imagery (beneficial).

A forward‑thinking, improvement‑focused mindset and the ability to work independently and prioritise effectively.
