Job Description - Google Specialist

POSITION DESCRIPTION | GOOGLE SPECIALIST



Reports to: Performance Director


Direct Reports: Junior Google Specialists


Purpose: As a Google Specialist, you will be responsible for the execution, optimisation, and ongoing management of Google Ads campaigns across a portfolio of clients. You will play a key role in delivering high-quality, performance-driven outcomes by applying platform best practices, analysing data, and identifying opportunities for improvement.


Working closely with senior team members and account teams, you will translate strategy into execution, ensuring campaigns are built, managed, and optimised effectively. This role requires strong attention to detail, a developing strategic mindset, and a solid technical foundation across Google’s advertising ecosystem.





KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Campaign Execution & Optimisation



  • Build, manage, and optimise Google Ads campaigns across Search, Display, Performance Max, Shopping, and YouTube.

  • Ensure campaigns are set up in line with best practices, client objectives, and tracking requirements.

  • Monitor campaign performance daily, identifying trends and implementing optimisations to improve results.

  • Manage budget allocation and pacing within defined parameters to maximise performance and efficiency.

  • Continuously refine bidding strategies, audience targeting, keyword selection, and campaign structures.


Performance Analysis & Insights



  • Analyse campaign data to identify performance trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement.

  • Provide clear, data-driven insights and actionable recommendations to internal teams.

  • Support the development of reporting by ensuring data accuracy and highlighting key performance drivers.

  • Assist in the preparation of performance reports with commentary aligned to client objectives.


Technical Implementation & Platform Management



  • Support the implementation and maintenance of conversion tracking, including Google Tag Manager and GA4 (with guidance as needed).

  • Work with product feeds, Google Merchant Centre, and campaign integrations to support eCommerce performance.

  • Ensure tracking, attribution, and campaign structures are set up correctly and maintained over time.

  • Troubleshoot campaign and tracking issues in collaboration with peers and senior team members.


Collaboration & Team Support



  • Work closely with Performance Leads, Account Managers, and cross-functional teams to deliver campaigns effectively.

  • Participate in team discussions, contributing insights and ideas to improve campaign performance.

  • Collaborate with peers to troubleshoot issues and share learnings.

  • Support and mentor junior team members o offshore support where required.


​​Reporting & Insights



  • Monitor and report on client performance, providing detailed insights and strategic recommendations.

  • Ensure reports are accurate, timely, and actionable, offering clear next steps based on data-driven insights.

  • Leverage Supermetrics, Shopify, and platform analytics to extract meaningful performance data.

  • Contribute to monthly and quarterly business reviews, presenting performance trends and areas of opportunity.


Client & Stakeholder Support



  • Support client communications through the delivery of accurate reporting and performance insights.

  • Clearly explain campaign performance and basic technical concepts to internal stakeholders and, where required, clients.

  • Ensure work aligns with broader client business objectives and channel activities.



ROLE EXPECTATIONS


Qualifications and Experience:



  • Experience: 2–4+ years of hands-on experience managing Google Ads campaigns.

  • Platform Knowledge: Strong working knowledge of Google Ads (Search, Display, PMax, Shopping).

  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with GA4, Google Tag Manager, and Google Merchant Centre.

  • Analytical Skills: Comfortable interpreting performance data and making optimisation decisions.

  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Organisation: Ability to manage multiple campaigns and priorities with attention to detail.

  • Education: Qualification in Marketing, Business, or related field (preferred but not essential).


Key Relationships:



  • Internal: Performance Director, account management team, and wider Performance Team (Paid Social, Programmatic, etc.)

  • External: Clients and platform representatives


Measures of Success:



  • Campaign Performance: Delivery of campaigns that meet or exceed agreed KPIs.

  • Execution Excellence: Accurate, timely campaign builds and optimisations aligned with best practices.

  • Data & Insights: Ability to identify issues and recommend effective, data-driven improvements.

  • Budget Management: Effective pacing and allocation of budgets within defined parameters.

  • Collaboration: Strong contribution to team outcomes and cross-functional alignment.

  • Development: Continuous improvement in technical capability and platform knowledge.
