Job Description - Graduate Nurse

Graduate Nurse Program Ongoing Full Time & Part Time Roles


The Peter Mac Graduate Nurse Program (GNP) is designed to assist newly graduated registered nurses to transition into an acute care setting, over a 12-month period. The program provides opportunitites for graduate nurses to consolidate and expand their clinical judgement and confidence while working as valued members of our organisation. Our GNP is structured to encourage reflective practice and help new nurses identify the many possibilities available in their nursing career.


There will be more than 30 graduate nurse positions available. Our intakes are February and March.


Graduate nurses will be allocated to two of the following clinical areas:


Exception: Graduate nurses allocated to Theatre or Day Therapy remain in the clinical area for the duration of the program.



  • Medical Oncology

  • Surgical Oncology

  • Haematology, and cellular therapies

  • Cancer Imaging

  • Theatre: Anaesthetics/PACU & Scrub Scout

  • Day Therapy: Medical Day Unit (MDU)/Transfusion Lounge and/or Chemotherapy Day Unit (CDU)

  • Short Stay Unit (SSU) & Day of Surgery Admission (DOSA)

  • Radiotherapy

  • Palliative Care

  • Specialist Clinics

  • Enhanced Care Unit (ECU)


 


 


Successful applicants will be employed on a part time (0.8 EFT) ongoing contract.


Graduate nurses allocated to Theatre will be employed on a full time (1 EFT) ongoing contract.

Face to face interviews will be held in July/August 2026


These nursing positions are ongoing upon successful comletion of the GNP, provided all program requirements have been met. Continued employment will occur either within a clinical ward/unit at Peter Mac or as part of our Nurse Pool, which offers experience across a variety of clinical areas.


An interview process will take place towards the end of the GNP to support graduate nurses in securing a position aligned with their interests and career goals. Peter Mac will actively support nurses placed in the Nurse Pool to transition into a permanent clinical area, based on their preferences, appropriate skill set and available EFT.


In addition, all nurses will enter the 12-month Cancer Nursing Professional Practice Pathway (CNPPP), designed to support and guide their continued professional development as early-career cancer nurses.
