Job Description - Group Life Claims Leader

As a Group Life Claims Leader, you’ll lead a high performing claims team and play a critical role in delivering an innovative and tailored claims management approach. You’ll empower your team to support members through complex and often sensitive situations, guiding them towards recovery, return to work, and improved wellbeing.

You’ll be responsible for leading technical decision making, ensuring alignment to policy, legislation, and best practice. At the same time, you’ll create a culture of coaching, development, and continuous improvement so your team can deliver exceptional member experiences.

Working closely with stakeholders across ART Life and broader business units, you’ll contribute to strategic initiatives, uplift capability, and help shape the future of claims operations.

This role is a permanent opportunity and is based in Brisbane.
 



Responsibilities

Day to day, you'll:

  • Lead, mentor and develop an end to end claims team to deliver strong member outcomes.
  • Provide technical guidance and oversight on complex claims decisions and assessments.
  • Coach and uplift capability across the team to enhance quality and performance.
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance to identify development needs and capability gaps.
  • Drive a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and best practice claims management.
  • Support organisational change and align the team to evolving business priorities.
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to improve service delivery and outcomes.
  • Analyse reporting and trends to inform decision making and identify emerging risks.
  • Contribute to strategic projects focused on enhancing claims operations and member experience.
  • Ensure compliance with policy, legislative, and governance requirements.


Qualifications

It goes without saying you'll be a great communicator with top notch interpersonal skills. We'll also expect you to pick up problems and come up with quick, creative ways to solve them. It's quite likely you tick some of the following boxes too:

  • You bring extensive experience in group life or insurance claims management, including complex cases.
  • Your knowledge of legislation, regulation, and insurance products is strong and up to date.
  • You'll have proven leadership experience, managing and motivating teams to achieve results.
  • You're confident interpreting policy terms and making sound, evidence based decisions.
  • You demonstrate a coaching mindset and adapt your leadership style to get the best from people.
  • Your experience includes driving improvements in quality, service, and operational efficiency.
  • You'll be comfortable using data, dashboards, and reporting to identify trends and insights.
  • You're able to navigate ambiguity, resolve complex issues, and influence positive outcomes.
  • You may hold a tertiary qualification in Business or a related discipline (desirable).
