Heavy Diesel Mechanic – Workshop & Field Role

Location: Maddington, Perth| Employment Type: Full-Time | Workshop & Field-Based

 

About the Role:

Downer is seeking skilled Heavy Diesel Mechanics, Technicians, or Fitters to join our team in Perth. This hybrid opportunity offers the best of both worlds: hands-on workshop maintenance and varied field service work. One day you’ll be in the workshop, the next you’ll be on site diagnosing faults and keeping critical projects moving.

We are especially interested in candidates who are flexible to travel when required, and who thrive both in a team environment and when working independently.

Key Responsibilities

• Service, repair, and maintain heavy plant machinery and trucks
• Diagnose and resolve breakdowns in the field
• Travel to various sites when required
• Ensure all work meets Downer’s high safety and operational standards
• Collaborate within a skilled team while also being able to work unsupervised

About You

• Trade qualification in Heavy Diesel Mechanics, Plant Mechanics, or Fitting (essential)
• Strong hydraulic knowledge and diagnostic skills
• Experience with mobile plant, trucks, and heavy equipment
• Auto electrical experience (highly regarded)
• Valid licences to support the role (HR and Forklift desirable)
• Strong team player with the capability to operate independently
• A proactive approach and commitment to safety
• Willing to be part of on call roster - 1 week out of 7
