The Intermediate is responsible for completing allocated sections of assignments for subsequent senior or manager review.
They should endeavour to demonstrate initiative and sound judgement to ensure productive utilisation of their time on assignment and completion in line with time and budgetary requirements.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Approach to Assignments
Ensure that all assignments are conducted in line with the Hall Chadwick quality control manual.
Obtain a thorough understanding of the procedures for those sections allocated to them for each assignment.
Complete work as instructed on sections appropriate for your level.
2. Planning and Programming Work
Assist the Senior as requested in setting up files with the correct documentation.
Read the prior year client correspondence file if applicable and permanent files prior to commencement of the assignment.
3. Control and Supervision of Work
Listen to instructions given to ensure that you understand the requirements of the tasks allocated to you.
Ensure that you clearly understand the process to be followed and how this relates to the assignment.
Be aware of deadlines for your sections and for the total job.
Prepare clear and concise workpapers, ensure they are prepared in line with the firm’s standards and provide appropriate conclusions.
Demonstrate an ability to complete the assignment with minimal supervision.
Keep the senior or manager informed in a timely manner of any likely variances to the budget and highlight any difficulties in completing the allocated work.
Demonstrate a high standard of professional courtesey and respect to all other members of the staff.
4. Client Liaison
Demonstrate a high standard of professional appearance and approach in dealing with clients.
Be able to communicate effectively with clients to obtain all the information required to complete the task allocated.
Develop a thorough understanding of the client’s business and the commercial environment in which they operate.
Wherever possible identify areas where we can add value to the client’s business by providing advice designed to improve processes, reduce expense or enhance income growth.
Be conscious of your role in liaising with the client or their staff by phone, e-mail or in person to ensure that you build their trust and confidence in Hall Chadwick. Ensure that any commitments made to clients are followed up and met in line with the expectation of the client.
Be sensitive and responsible to concerns raised by clients and ensure that these issues are referred to your senior or manager and dealt with promptly, professionally and effectively.
Ensure that the senior and manager are kept informed of any issues which may impact negatively upon a client relationship.
5. Professional and Technical Skills – Key Competencies
Meet all key competencies of a Junior; and
Understand and be able to completed creditors voluntary liquidations
Knowledge of and responsible for all statutory lodgments in matters on ledger
Insol 6 task list and control form to be completed and updated as matter progresses
533 reports to be lodged within 2 months of the appointment, unless approval from a manager / appointee
AGM’s to be convened within anniversary period
Understand the voluntary administration process
Knowledge of and understand voidable transactions and the required supporting documentation required
Good communication skills both oral and written, i.e. dealing with creditors
Developing problem solving skills
6. Report Writing
Ensure that all correspondence is drafted in a professional manner and with demonstrated sensitivity to the attitude of the recipient.
Be aware of our legal and professional requirements when preparing client correspondence and ensure all correspondence is appropriately worded.
7. Computer Skills
Demonstrate a good working knowledge of:
Word
Excel
Insol 6
Be efficient in your use of these products, including:
Ensuring that you are properly trained in all products you use
Using shortcuts wherever possible
Establishing standards to be copies and re-used
Using existing templates/standards
8. Other General Areas
In performing your work, ensure that you adhere to the requirements of the following:
Hall Chadwick typing policy
File naming conventions
Other accounting requirements which may include:
Layout of work papers
File set up
Letters
Spreadsheets, etc
Be aware of your budgeted chargeable units per day and the total units per day for completing timesheets. Intermediates are expected to charge 90% of their total units per day.
Ensure that you keep comprehensive daily records of time spent, as the basis for completing timesheets.
Consistently submit timesheets that are fully and accurately completed by the due day and time each week.
Participate effectively in all meetings, from divisional/team meetings, to other firm meetings. Ensure that you Complete the action points assigned to you and meet the deadlines set.
Actively participate in the firm’s training programmes, ensuring that you are proactive in demonstrating the skills taught on the job.
Be proactive in developing good relations with other staff in the division, ensure that you participate effectively as part of the team, understanding your role and the roles of others.
