The Opportunity

The Department of Parliamentary Services-Landscape Services is looking to fill the vacant position ofLandscape Scheduler.

The Landscape Scheduler reports to the Assistant Director of Landscape Services and provides day‑to‑dayworkforce planning, sequencing of works and alignment of resources to operational priorities and events.

Key duties include planning and coordinating landscape maintenance activities, developing work schedules,supporting financial and procurement activities and maintaining accurate records and systems including workorder data and asset and inventory information.

The ideal candidate will have strong organisational skills, effective communication skills, experience in procurement activities, with qualifications and/or knowledge in landscape/horticulture practises.

Job Specific Requirements: 

• The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (Protected/Restricted) security clearance.

Duty Statement

Under limited/general direction undertake duties in accordance with the agreed standards for the specified classification. The duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Plan and coordinate short-term landscape maintenance activities and minor projects across Parliament House grounds.
   
   


2. Develop and manage work schedules, ensuring resources, access requirements, materials and sequencing of works are appropriately identified and allocated.
   
   


3. Ensure work orders are complete and accurate, including required procedures, access arrangements and supporting documentation.
   
   


4. Support financial and procurement activities, including raising purchase requests, goods receipting, invoice reconciliation and cost centre monitoring.
   
   


5. Liaise with suppliers and contractors to coordinate delivery of materials and services, ensuring compliance with site access and security requirements.
   
   


6. Promote and maintain the highest standards of safety across all operations, ensuring compliance with Work Health and Safety (WHS) policies and upholding the Parliamentary Service Values.
   
   


7. Maintain accurate records and systems, including work order data, asset and inventory information.
   
   


8. Provide reporting and administrative support to the Assistant Director and Manager, Landscape Services.

Employees of DPS are required to be able, and to be seen to be able, to provide professional advice and services to all Senators and Members without favour or prejudice.

Selection Criteria

1. Strong organisational and scheduling skills, with the ability to prioritise and coordinate competing landscape maintenance activities to meet service standards and deadlines.
   
   


2. Demonstrated effective communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to prepare work programs, schedules and work order documentation, while maintaining accurate records and data, including asset and inventory information, and undertaking basic reporting and analysis.
   
   


3. Proven ability to liaise and coordinate with internal trades, contractors and suppliers, including managing site access, permits and security requirements.
   
   


4. Experience in procurement and financial administration, including purchasing, goods receipting, invoice reconciliation, cost monitoring systems and use of platforms such as Concur (or similar).
   
   


5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team, contributing to a proactive workplace health and safety culture while upholding the Parliamentary Service values of commitment to service, ethical behaviour, respect, accountability, and impartiality.
   
   


6. Qualifications and/or knowledge of landscape/horticultural practices and WHS requirements, particularly in relation to planning and scheduling works, including SWMS and PPE considerations.

Salary

Currently, the salary range for this position is $92,450 - $99,185 per annum.

Conditions of Employment

Employment opportunities at the department are subject to a range of conditions prescribed in the Parliamentary Service Act 1999 which include:

• Australian citizenship: Section 22 of the Parliamentary Service Act 1999 requires that employees of the Parliamentary Service are generally required to be Australian citizens. However, if you are not an Australian citizen you may be considered for engagement on the condition that you are able to gain Australian Citizenship within a specified time. Failure to obtain citizenship within the timeframe could lead to termination of employment.
  
  


• Loss and resumption of Australian citizenship: Under historical provisions of the Australian Citizenship Act 1948 (section 17), some Australian citizens automatically lost their citizenship if they voluntarily acquired the citizenship of another country between 26 January 1949 and 3 April 2002. This loss occurred by operation of law and may not have been known to the individual at the time. Although these provisions were repealed in 2002 to allow dual citizenship, the repeal did not restore citizenship that was previously lost. Individuals who believe they may be affected are recommended to seek advice about resuming their Australian citizenship. • Applicants who progress to the offer stage with our department who have been affected by the loss of citizenship as outlined above will be required to demonstrate within a reasonable time that they have resumed, or are actively undertaking the process to resume, Australian citizenship.
  
  




• Security clearance and character clearance: the preferred applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the level specified, as well as complete and be deemed suitable through a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check.
  
  


• Health assessment: a pre-employment health assessment will be required where there are physical or medical requirements for the role.
  
  


• External Work Approval: Employees must seek approval for any paid employment outside the department and declare voluntary activities that could impact their role.
