Materials and Energy Research Associate, Research

Position Description

We are looking for a Materials and Energy Research Associate, responsible for providing support to the Lead Analyst. You would be working the Senior Analyst on research projects and client requests. You would be primarily responsible for coordinating research activities, e.g. following news, compiling data, updating financial models, writing parts of investment reports and fundamental research through deep dives on industry thematics.

Key Areas of Responsibilities

• Assist Senior Analysts on specific research projects.

• Collect data and compile answers for clients requests.

• Help build and maintain commodity and financial models.

• Maintain databases of economic and industry specific data.

• Accompany clients on visits and produce notes.

• Maintain sound working relationships with corporates, clients, the government, and industry organizations.

• Develop and maintain key client relationships

• Actively engage with clients and the relevant sales team members to communicate ideas to ensure maximum exposure/return from the time invested in producing research reports

Requirements

• Bachelor degree or above in mining, petroleum/chemical engineering or similar technical degree, or a business-related discipline (preferably finance or accounting)

• 2-7 years of experience as a research associate or corporate finance/valuations

• (mining or energy background preferred), or specific industry experience in mining/energy-related fields

• Strong analytical skills with quant skills highly desirable

• Strong understanding of financial modelling

• Strong excel/ spreadsheet skills

• Attention to detail

• Ability to work fast and accurately under extreme time pressure when required

• Good interpersonal sensitivity

• High commercial awareness

• Excellent communication, relationship and management skills to both internal and external

• Excellent command in both spoken and written English
