New Job Opening: Lawyer: Commercial Litigation in Melbourne, VIC

Job Description

What’s in it for you?

• High-quality litigation: Work within one of Melbourne’s well-regarded disputes practices on complex matters involving major organisations and government clients.

• Close Partner mentoring: Work directly with a highly experienced litigation Partner who will be closely involved in your development and day-to-day matters.

• Real responsibility: Take ownership of substantive tasks rather than sitting on the sidelines, while still having the support of a strong team around you.

• Broad commercial exposure: Build on your general commercial disputes background within a practice acting for listed companies, SMEs, financiers, insolvency practitioners, institutional clients and government.

• Flexibility and balance: Benefit from flexible hours and leave options, including purchased leave, career breaks and study leave, alongside a genuinely supportive environment.

About your new employer:

• A leading national commercial law firm with offices across Australia and a strong reputation for complex disputes and advisory work.

• Acts for major public and private organisations, institutional clients and all levels of government across a broad range of sectors.

• Known for combining high-quality work with a collegiate culture, strong Partner access and practical flexibility.

About the role:

• Join a dedicated disputes team working on a critical and complex matter for the Commonwealth Government.

• Assist across the life of the matter, including legal research, drafting, evidence preparation, correspondence and broader litigation support.

• Work closely with lawyers and paralegals in a large matter team while also taking ownership of individual tasks and deadlines.

• Develop your commercial litigation capability in a structured environment with close supervision and exposure to sophisticated dispute strategy.

• Gain experience that will strengthen your foundation across large-scale litigation, investigations and government-related disputes.

The ideal candidate:

• 2–3 years’ post-admission experience with a background in commercial litigation or general commercial disputes.

• Strong drafting, legal research and analytical skills, with excellent attention to detail.

• Comfortable managing competing priorities and working effectively in a busy, deadline-driven environment.

• Confident communicator who enjoys working collaboratively with colleagues, clients and counsel.

• Experience in investigations or government disputes would be advantageous, but is not essential.
