Job Description - Payroll Advisor

Your Opportunity

You will be joining a purpose-driven not-for-profit organisation, working closely with senior leaders who genuinely embody the values of making a positive difference in the community.

In addition to a competitive salary, you will benefit from an enhanced superannuation contribution of 12.75%, a two-week shutdown period over Christmas and New Year, and an increased annual leave entitlement of 23 days per year.

This is an office-based role offering a high degree of flexibility around start and finish times, along with on-site parking to support a healthy work-life balance.

As part of a high-performing Finance team, you will provide payroll advisory support to leaders across the organisation and work closely with the outsourced payroll provider responsible for delivering fortnightly payroll services.

You will also act as a key liaison between the organisation, government agencies and internal stakeholders, ensuring legislative compliance, maintaining robust payroll governance and controls, and contributing to ongoing process improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the delivery of accurate and timely payroll services through the organisation's external payroll provider, ensuring all payroll outcomes meet agreed service standards.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, enterprise agreements, employment contracts, taxation requirements, superannuation obligations, and workers' compensation regulations.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for the external payroll provider, monitoring service performance, resolving issues, and managing escalations.
  • Provide payroll advice and guidance to managers, People & Culture, and Finance stakeholders on payroll, leave, entitlements, classifications, and compliance matters.
  • Monitor payroll data integrity, employee records and system access

Investigate payroll discrepancies, overpayments, terminations, and payroll-

  • related risks, implementing corrective actions where required.
  • Support organisational change initiatives, including enterprise agreement updates, workforce changes, system implementations, and payroll process transitions.
  • Prepare payroll reports, data analysis, and workforce insights to support operational decision-making
  • Drive continuous improvement of payroll processes, systems, controls, and procedures to enhance efficiency, accuracy, compliance, and stakeholder experience.

Experience Required

  • Demonstrated experience in payroll governance and payroll advisory
  • Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation, Fair Work requirements, superannuation and taxation
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate and resolve complex payroll matters.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to explain payroll concepts clearly and professionally.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to confidentiality, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Proficiency in payroll and HRIS systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
